Avengers: Endgame Breaks International BO Records with $169M Opening Day

Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame has officially broken several international box office records with its opening day. That shouldn’t come as a big surprise to moviegoers: Endgame is probably one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year, if not the decade. Even before its opening weekend, the film was already selling out thousands of screenings, and fans crashed ticket-buying sites, such as Fandango, when ticket pre-orders went live.

Endgame follows up on a story that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been building up to for over 10 years. It’s a direct follow-up to Avengers: Infinity War, a movie that saw the Avengers lose to the Mad Titan Thanos, who successfully collected all the Infinity Stones to give him ultimate power. Thanos then used that power to snap his fingers, which decimated half of the universe’s population, as well as many of the superheroes who were members of the Avengers team. The movie will help wrap up Phase 3 of the MCU, although that phase officially ends in July with the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home.

For now, though, Endgame is breaking records all over the world. According to Box Office Pro, the film has brought in a whopping $169 million in its opening day overseas. It opened at #1 in all markets and broke records in China for the highest all-time industry single day and the highest all-time midnight showing. Other countries also saw the movie break records for the highest all-time industry single day, including Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand and Taiwan. It also scored the highest all-time superhero opening of all time in many countries.

Considering that Endgame cost anywhere from $350-400 million to produce, the fact that it is well on track to take in a sizable profit speaks loudly about just how many people are interested in seeing this film. The movie already has a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and both fans and critics have started to chime in with statements about how epic Endgame is.

Endgame breaking box office records isn’t surprising to fans of the franchise since Marvel spent over a decade building up these characters and stories, with Endgame being the ultimate finale in the series. The enormous demand for the film has some theaters adding additional showings around the clock to give fans what they want – unlimited power to see the movie of all movies in the MCU without needing an Infinity Gauntlet to do so. There is also a high likelihood of repeat viewings, meaning that the sky’s the limit when it comes to how much money Endgame will eventually take in.
