Married at First Sight’s Amber Says Matt Isn’t Ready for the Married Life

Lifetime’s Married at First Sight star Amber Bowles says her new husband Matt Gwynne isn’t actually ready for the married life. She found out a little too late that they aren’t on the same page when it comes to starting a family.

Married at First Sight, now in its 9th season, is a reality show that brings together two complete strangers – who the “relationship experts” on the show deem compatible – and marries them on the spot. The couples – three different pairs are featured each season – spend their wedding night in a hotel together before leaving for their honeymoon. Once they get back, they live together as a married couple for eight weeks before deciding whether or not they want to divorce or remain together. This season features recently married couple Bowles and Gwynne. While things started out well for the two of them, it looks like the relationship has taken a turn for the worse.

On a recent episode of Married at First Sight, Bowles was shocked to learn Gwynne doesn’t want to have children for another five to eight years. She admitted that she thinks the show’s relationship experts should’ve chosen someone younger for him, if he wasn’t ready to start a family just yet. However, he assured her he wasn’t afraid of having children, but of being “automatically bonded” to the mother of his children for this rest of his life. Check out a teaser for the show below from the Married at First Sight Instagram:

Bowles opened up about how she felt about all of this on an episode of Married at First Sight: Unfiltered, where contestants sit down with Jamie Nicole Hehner, who appeared on Married at First Sight: The First Year, to talk about the highs and lows of their new relationships. She told Hehner that she was frustrated because she thought she and Gwynne would be bonded for life anyway through marriage. She didn’t understand why kids were out of the question right now. Bowles added that she thinks Gwynne is thinking only of himself and is “not really ready for marriage at this point.”

Fans will have to watch to see if these two decide to recommit to one another or if they’re ultimately going to call it quits. Considering that nearly 23 percent of the couples featured on the show are still together, according to Distractify, Bowles and Gwynne definitely have a fighting chance.
