Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Quick Trick to Unlock All Characters

After all the excitement and speculation, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is finally here. The game features a total of 74 playable fighters, but there are only eight of these characters available from the beginning (technically 11 for anyone up to creating all three Mii Fighters). That means that there’s a gargantuan task at hand for anyone that wants to go about earning all 63 unlockable fighters, but there’s actually a much quicker means of unlocking every character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Gamers can play through stock matches or Classic mode in order to unlock the characters at the intended rate, but the cool down for the latter lasts roughly 10 minutes. That means it would take roughly 11 hours for players to unlock every single character, if they were to grind out each fighter in a single session. Fortunately, Nintendo wanted to ensure that players were earning newcomers every time they booted up the game, which is exactly how this workaround was discovered.

Despite the fact that Ronald McDonald isn’t among the playable roster, fans can do the following in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to unlock all of the game’s characters quickly:

Step One: Trigger the ‘Challenger Approaching’ Screen

For anyone booting up Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, simply jump into a stock match. Upon completion, a random character will appear. Provided that the Smasher is able to defeat them, they’ll unlock the character. Now, traditionally, this will trigger a 10-minute cool down before players are able to proceed with unlocking the next fighter, but this is where a tricky bit of business can be implemented.

Step Two: Reboot the Entire Game

Exit Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and close it before then reopening the title. This will remove the aforementioned cool down and allow gamers to begin another stock match to summon another new challenger. Again, these newcomers are completely random, so this isn’t the quickest tactic for unlocking, for example, Ken and Incineroar in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate immediately. Instead, this will just get players the full roster much more quickly.

Step Three: Rinse and Repeat

At this point, repeating the process will make characters show up in a rapid succession. It will still take some time to get through this process with all 63 unlockable characters – approximately an hour and half – but it’s still a much quicker option when compared to the 11 hours it takes to gain them naturally. Truthfully, who wants to wait that long to unlock King K. Rool in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?
