Sylvester Stallone Teases Rambo 5 Return With Workout Prep Video

Sylvester Stallone has made the ultimate tease for Rambo 5 with a video revealing his workout prep gearing up for his return to the iconic role of Rambo. Whereas it was once up in the air whether or not Stallone would ever embody his classic ’80s action hero role again, Stallone is more than ready to take on Rambo once more.

The history of Rambo 5 is a tricky and muddled one. A reboot of the franchise was first confirmed in October 2016, and nobody was sure if Stallone would in fact return in the titular role. The film was then put on hold when plans for a Rambo television series, one not involving Stallone, seemed to gain steam. But when that series never received a green light, it cleared the way for Rambo 5 to take shape. It was only in May of this year that it was finally confirmed Stallone would strap in as the character of Rambo again, with Get the Gringo director Adrian Grunberg reportedly helming the project.

Now, Stallone is committed to showing his fans that he’s going all in for Rambo 5. On Friday, Stallone posted an intense workout video on his Instagram (below) showing exactly the lengths he’s going to in order to prep for playing Rambo. The video shows the 72-year-old actor flipping a huge 250 lb. weight across his gym floor and giving a little flourish of celebration when he finishes his set. Stallone’s caption reads, “Getting ready for Rambo Also just because you’ve REACHED a certain age doesn’t mean you have to FEEL that age! Keep pumping, keep punching!

Interestingly, in a 2016 interview, Stallone stamped out fans’ hopes of him returning to the character of Rambo because he was feeling too old for the physical activity the role demands. The actor said, then, on playing Rambo, “The heart’s willing, but the body says, ‘Stay home! It’s like fighters that go back for one last round and get clobbered. Leave it to someone else. Clearly, something has changed in Stallone’s mind, and it’s possible that he was even referencing his own 2016 comments with his latest Instagram post encouraging fans to not let their age limit them.

In another Instagram post earlier this month, Stallone released a teaser poster for Rambo 5 that confirmed a fall 2019 release. The script will reportedly see Rambo go up against one of Mexico’s most brutal cartels, though the story is not completely finished as of yet. With all of this attention surrounding the franchise and Stallone’s commitment to the upcoming film, one thing’s for certain: Rambo fans should gear up for a major return of the character come 2019.
