Black Mirror Season 5 Casts Anthony Mackie & Yahya Abdul-Mateen II

The mysterious fifth season of Netflix’s sci-fi anthology Black Mirror casts MCU star Anthony Mackie and DCEU star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. While not quite a pop culture phenomenon on the level of say Stranger Things, Black Mirror is certainly one of the most popular and well-regarded original series on Netflix. That’s a bit amusing, if only because Black Mirror wasn’t designed from the ground up as a Netflix project, and became a Netflix original after seasons 1 and 2 had already aired on the U.K.’s Channel 4.

That aside, Black Mirror is now definitely best known as a Netflix production, and continues to increase in notoriety with each passing season. Season 3 premiered in October 2016, featuring the Emmy-winning episode “San Junipero.” Season 4 followed in December 2017, taking viewers aboard the “USS Callister.” Most fans expected season 5 – which entered production in early 2018 – to debut before the end of last year, but instead, Netflix and the Black Mirror team dropped the bombshell that was Bandersnatch, an interactive Black Mirror movie.

Unfortunately, since Bandersnatch’s release, there’s been zero official updates on Black Mirror season 5, outside of Netflix confirming that Bandersnatch was indeed not it. Miley Cyrus herself confirmed that she’s set to appear in an upcoming episode, but that’s all that’s known. Now though, Deadline reports that Black Mirror season 5 has cast both Anthony Mackie and Yayha Abdul-Mateen II, although details beyond that remain scarce.

Mackie has quite the film and TV resume at this point, but is probably best known for his role as Falcon/Sam Wilson in the MCU. He’s so far played the heroic character in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Infinity War. He’s also expected to return for Avengers: Endgame. Mateen recently joined the DCEU as the villain Black Manta in Aquaman, and is expected to play a larger role in Aquaman 2. He’s also set to appear in HBO’s Watchmen series, and as the titular villain in the upcoming remake of Candyman.

Netflix has, of course, declined to comment on Deadline’s report, so anything beyond their casting is unknown. It’s unknown what characters Mackie and Mateen will play, or even whether they’ll appear in the same season 5 episode of Black Mirror. Regardless, both men are great additions to the season 5 cast, and will likely fit nicely into the dark, bleak world creator Charlie Brooker has crafted. Now, here’s hoping Netflix sees fit to reveal a release date for season 5 sometime soon, as fans are getting impatient.

Star Wars 9: Anthony Daniels Wraps Filming As C-3PO

Star Wars: Episode IX actor Anthony Daniels reveals he’s wrapped filming his scenes as C-3PO for the new movie. Daniels has been a part of the franchise from the very beginning and holds the noble distinction of being the only person to appear in all installments of the beloved series. In addition to his 10 portrayals as C-3PO (including a cameo in Rogue One), Daniels played Wookiee Tak in last summer’s Solo spinoff. Over the years, Daniels has seen the size of his roles change, but he’s always been a constant presence on set.

Director J.J. Abrams began shooting Star Wars 9 back in August 2018, and reports indicate he’ll finish up in February. While there’s no official word when Episode IX will formally wrap, it looks like things are beginning to wind down to a close. Daniels is now finished with his work on the film.

Related: Only Kylo Ren’s Death Can End The Skywalker Saga

Today, Daniels took to Twitter to announce it was his last day on Episode IX. Understandably, the actor was feeling emotional about the development, but expressed gratitude for the hard work of the crew and excitement for what’s to come. Check out his post in the space below:

There’s a good chance Episode IX marks the final big screen appearance for C-3PO. Lucasfilm is currently developing two new Star Wars film projects – one from Rian Johnson and one from David Benioff & D.B. Weiss – that are not connected to the Skywalker saga. The idea behind them is that they’ll explore new characters and locations, freeing the Star Wars franchise from the singular narrative that’s defined it for more than 40 years (every piece of Star Wars canon can be traced back to the saga). This means there likely won’t be a natural place for C-3PO in future films. Still, Daniels could easily play someone else if he were so willing. Obviously, Threepio has a special place in his heart, but he enjoys being a part of the galaxy far, far away and could find a small part in any of the upcoming movies.

It’ll be interesting to see how Episode IX handles Threepio and Artoo. The dynamic droid duo were key supporting characters in the originals, but the sequels have given them very little to do. Their brief screen time in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi amounts to little more than glorified cameos, which disappointed some viewers. Hopefully, with Episode IX marking the conclusion of the Skywalker saga, Abrams and company were able to come up with one final memorable moment for the characters that started it all back in 1977.

Dave Bautista Wants to Star in James Gunn’s Suicide Squad 2

In a not-so-surprising turn of events, Dave Bautista is interested in starring in James Gunn’s version of Suicide Squad 2. Earlier this summer, it was announced that Gunn had been hired as the director for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. At the time, the decision had come down from the chairman of Walt Disney Studios, but it has since been agreed to by the rest of the leadership at the Mouse House, including the heads of Marvel Studios and The Walt Disney Company.

It was a decision that struck a chord with Gunn’s fan base as well as many fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But, it particularly hit the cast and crew of the Guardians series pretty hard. In an open letter, the core member of the Guardians cast expressed their support for Gunn, though that statement stopped short of calling for his reinstatement as director. However, the one person who has championed Gunn’s cause at Marvel is Drax actor Dave Bautista, who recently indicated that he might not return to the MCU after Avengers 4. Interestingly, though, it seems there’s another comic book movie Bautista can do with Gunn.

Related: James Gunn is Writing Suicide Squad 2

Today, WB announced that James Gunn had been hired to write the script for Suicide Squad 2 with the possibility of directing it. And now, it seems that Bautista – who, again, has been a staunch supporter of Gunn’s – is interested in joining the movie, saying on Twitter, “Where do I sign up!” Given that this movie will reportedly be a new take on the team, though most likely with the same cast, it’s possible that Gunn could bring in Bautista for any number of roles. After all, Task Force X isn’t called the Suicide Squad for no reason; their roster tends to change… often.

However, it will be quite a while before the casting process for Suicide Squad 2 gets underway. Gunn was only recently hired to write the new script, and judging by recent reports, it’s apparent that the story will be different than the version that Gavin O’Connor, Todd Stashwick, and David Bar Katz had come up with. But because Gunn appears to be starting from scratch – or, at least, close to it – it may take some time before Suicide Squad 2 even starts filming. It will be a long process from here on out, especially since the new leadership at DC Films has been keen on getting their stories and scripts down before even thinking about anything else.

For now, MCU fans can look forward to seeing Bautista reprise his role as Drax (possibly for the last time?) in Anthony and Joe Russo’s Avengers 4 in 2019. Then, it’s certainly possible he can hop over to the DC movie universe in the future, whenever Suicide Squad 2 finally moves out of the development stage and into production.

Pay-per-view pricing seems reasonable in comparison to paying a door charge at a sports bar. And with MMAFighting reporting paydays of $3 million and $2 million for McGregor and Khabib, respectively, in anticipation of the pay-per-view numbers they’ll bring in… it’ll be packed everywhere tonight. So here are a few options to watch the big fight at home and/or with family and friends!

Are there other ways to watch the Khabib v  s McGregor fight?

Absolutely. The other way is setting up a digital livestream through a program like Kodi, but that’s for the advanced, risk-seeking UFC fan – and will take some time to set up if you’re not familiar. Here are some tips to setting that up for online viewing. But remember: if you’re not paying for it, what you’re doing is probably illegal!

Mark Ruffalo Fake Spoils Avengers 4 Title; Directors Fake Fire Him [Update]

Update: Mark Ruffalo’s bleeped Avengers 4 title is The Last Avenger

It looks like Mark Ruffalo has trolled Marvel fans with by having his Avengers 4 title spoiler bleeped out of his appearance on The Tonight Show. Ever since it was announced that the 2019 Avengers movie would no longer be titled Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2 and, instead, be an entirely separate story that exists apart from 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, fans have continuously speculated what the title could be. Since Marvel plans on straying away from titles used in the comics, that leaves the door wide open for whatever the title may ultimately be.

Shortly before Infinity War released, it was reported that the reason Marvel hadn’t revealed what the Avengers 4 title was yet was that they didn’t want to spoil what happens in Infinity War. However, that notion was walked back by Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige. Furthermore, directors Anthony and Joe Russo put to rest several title rumors by saying the title wasn’t spoken at all in their 2018 Avengers movie, which shut down fan hopes that Avengers 4 would be called Endgame, thus referring to Doctor Strange’s final words before disintegrating.

Related: Rumor Says Avengers 4 Title Is Annihilation… But Is It?

It finally looked like Marvel Studios was going to reveal the title today during The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. To start with, Mark Ruffalo tweeted at Fallon this morning, asking him to remove the Avengers 4 spoiler that he “accidentally” leaked. Then, the Russo Brothers chimed in on Twitter, telling Ruffalo, “Mark, you’re fired.” Things came to a head when Ruffalo was actually going to reveal the title… but he didn’t. Instead, it got bleeped out. As it turns out, it was expert-level trolling by Ruffalo (and Marvel).

Update: Ruffalo responds to the Russos firing him, asking for a second chance.

Sure, it’s possible that people could try to make out what Ruffalo is saying, but it’s clear that this was all planned from the get-go. Marvel Studios has their marketing plan laid out, and they are merely getting people excited for that to kick off. A teaser trailer for the highly-anticipated movie is expected to debut sometime in late November (or possibly early December), but the title should release sometime before then.

Given Ruffalo’s appearance and the apparent trolling on behalf of Ruffalo/Marvel, it seems like the studio acknowledges the importance of the title itself and is willing to potentially reveal it separately. Until the Avengers 4 title is revealed, though, MCU and comic book fans will have plenty to discuss and plenty of possibilities to sift through.

WB’s Extended Aquaman Trailer Puts the MCU to Shame, Says Mark Millar

Comic book writer and artist Mark Millar expresses an aggressive opinion about DC Films’ new Aquaman movie, saying that it puts the current Marvel Cinematic Universe movies to shame. James Wan’s upcoming solo movie is the only DC Comics-based feature to release this year, and it continues Arthur Curry’s story that left off with last year’s Justice League movie. Considering that it’s the first time the character has been adapted into live-action in his own standalone movie, there’s obviously quite a bit of hype surrounding it.

Jason Momoa reprises his Justice League role as Arthur, aka Aquaman, in the new movie, which sees him go on a quest with Mera (Amber Heard) to find King Atlan’s Trident. Doing so will grant him the powers he needs to not only control the seven seas but also dethrone his brother, King Orm (Patrick Wilson), as the King of Atlantis and save the surface world from invasion. It’s a lot to take in, which is why the studio started marketing the film back at San Diego Comic-Con 2018. And then at New York Comic Con 2018, they released an extended, five-minute Aquaman trailer (the same one which was shown to Hall H attendees at SDCC).

Related: How Will Aquaman Get His New, Comic-Inspired Costume?

Warner Bros. Pictures officially released the extended Aquaman trailer online today, and it got quite the reaction from Mark Millar, who is best known for writing comic book series like Kingsman, Wanted, Kick-Ass, and even Marvel’s Civil War (of which Anthony and Joe Russo’s Captain America: Civil War movie is based on). In response to seeing the trailer, Millar decreed that the trailer makes the modern MCU movies look like they belong among 1970s Marvel TV shows, like The Incredible Hulk. Take a look:

It’s no secret that the studio has struggled with developing critically-acclaimed DC movies in recent years, despite the fact that the vast majority of those films have been financially successful. Still, with the exception of the third trailer for Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which infamously spoiled Doomsday’s involvement in the blockbuster team-up movie, the one area that DC has typically excelled in is making trailers. In fact, it’s the popularity of their trailers that convinced studio executives to completely recut David Ayer’s Suicide Squad.

Regardless of what Millar’s point is, it’s clear that people – including Millar – are excited about Aquaman‘s standalone film. Whether it turns out to be the hit that fans (and the studio) are hoping it will be remains to be seen. But it’s on the right track with regards to its marketing campaign, which should kick into high gear sometime in November, leading up to its crowded December release.

Supergirl Casts Anthony Konechny As A New DEO Agent

As the season 4 premiere of Supergirl inches closer and closer, new updates have continued to roll out, including Anthony Konechny being cast in the show. The first trailer for season 4 debuted at San Diego Comic-Con and focused on a group called the Children of Liberty, who are devoted to destroying all aliens, good and bad.

The first season of Supergirl came out in 2015 and starred Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers a.k.a. Supergirl. While the show opened to strong reviews, viewership began to decrease as the season went along. It was eventually announced that Supergirl would be getting a second season, but would instead air on The CW rather than CBS. The move has been widely considered a good one, since it more easily allows crossovers with other DC superhero characters. Granted, the Flash did appear in season 1; however, Supergirl has since been at the center of the Arrowverse crossover events for the past few years. Many actors and actresses have been added to the cast during the ensuing seasons, and now Konechny will be one of the most recent additions.

As reported by Deadline, Konechny will be playing a D.E.O. agent in season 4. The D.E.O., abbreviated from Department of Extra-Normal Operations, was created by the United States government following the arrival of Superman on Earth. As the title suggests, the D.E.O. was created in order to monitor extra-terrestrial visitors. Konechny will be playing a character called Agent Jensen, who is said to be having trouble fitting in at his new workplace. Jensen will not only have a recurring role in season 4, but will be included in the very first episode.

While he may not have had the lead role in any summer blockbusters quite yet, Konechny has snagged minor roles in popular films such as GodzillaFifty Shades of Grey, and X-Men: Apocalypse. More recently, Konechny appeared in two episodes of When Calls the Heart, and filmed scenes for the Christmas film Noelle, starring Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader.

Konechny has been acting since 2008, and even had a small role in Smallville, back when Superman was starring in his own TV show. Now nine years later, Konechny is set to return to the superhero genre in a show focusing on Superman’s cousin. Given that the fourth season of Supergirl is set to premiere in the middle of October, it’s likely fans will be hearing about even more casting news in the coming weeks.

Riverdale Season 3 Breakfast Club Episode Casts Anthony Michael Hall

This fall, The CW’s Riverdale will be the latest series to get into the ‘80s nostalgia game, as the dark teen drama will deliver an episode inspired by the John Hughes classic, The Breakfast Club. Not only will the episode take viewers back in time to when Fred Andrews, Clifford Blossom, Hermione Gomez, and more were students at Riverdale High, but it will also welcome guest star – and Breakfast Club co-star – Anthony Michael Hall as Principal Featherhead.

Because season 3 is currently filming, not much else is known about the episode, or how the flashback is intended to tie in with the season’s overarching storyline. The series is coming off the shocking revelation of the Black Hood’s identity, the ramifications of which will no doubt continue to reverberate throughout the new episodes. With the focus of the Breakfast Club episode being on the collective past of the show’s adult characters, chances are good whatever’s revealed may have been better off left buried.

More: Disenchantment Review: Matt Groening Returns, But The Magic Isn’t Quite There

That seems to be the case, as the episode’s brief synopsis hints at “dark secrets” being learned, which is pretty much par for the course for this series. Check out the episode’s description below, along with a “page” from the Riverdale High yearbook, featuring some actual yearbook photos of the cast:

“In RIVERDALE’s “Breakfast Club” inspired flashback episode, we learn dark secrets from when the adults were high school students. Anthony Michael Hall will play Principal Featherhead, the longstanding principal at Riverdale High who gets caught up in the game the teenagers are playing in an unexpected way. The episode of RIVERDALE titled “The Midnight Club” will air Wednesday, November 7, 2018  (8:00–9:00 pm ET/PT), on The CW.”

The choice to do a flashback inspired by a staple of ’80s cinema is in keeping with Riverdale’s past efforts to present unique bottle episodes, like season 2’s Carrie musical. While this perhaps won’t be as much of a technical challenge, it stands the chance of garnering the same level of attention — albeit from Hughes fans instead of musical theater geeks. Moreover, the episode will give Riverdale a chance to explore the pasts of some of the show’s most interesting characters — the parents — as they find themselves in a similarly formative time in their lives as their children. The result could be a highlight of Riverdale season 3.
