Did Chris Evans Just Confirm Interdimensional Travel in Avengers: Endgame?

Interdimensional travel may have just been confirmed for Avengers: Endgame thanks to Chris Evans. The final film of Phase 3 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is only a week away from hitting theaters, and so far Marvel Studios has done all they can to keep plot details under wraps. This has not made it easy on fans to know what they can expect to see, but there have been some subtle clues along the way, including during filming.

Even before we found out that half of the universe’s population vanished at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, set photos from Avengers: Endgame appeared to be teasing both a time jump and time travel. The photos showed a blonde and older Tony Stark along with Chris Evans back in his Captain America costume from The Avengers. Time travel was later teased during the mid-credits scene for Ant-Man and the Wasp with the mention of time vortexes in the Quantum Realm. This has since been used as a basis for many theories, while others have wondered if other dimensions or realities could be involved.

During a segment on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the cast members of Avengers: Endgame were asked a series of questions. When they were asked what their biggest enemy was, Chris Hemsworth, Brie Larson, and Jeremy Renner all used Thanos for their answer. However, Chris Evans’ response – while partially in jest – may have also confirmed that interdimensional travel is part of Avengers: Endgame. Here’s what he said:

“Honestly, I’d say chafing. If you’ve ever run through an interdimensional portal wearing a skin tight body suit, you know what I mean.”

It is important to once again mention that Evans is clearly having fun with this answer, so his tone does make this answer more difficult to decipher. That said, specifically mentioning an interdimensional portal is what makes it more likely to be a true slip up. He could’ve simply said “If you’ve ever run wearing a skin tight body suit” and still have gotten the joke across. Additionally, we’ve never seen Captain America run through any type of portal, much less an interdimensional one.

If we do take Evans’ response as confirmation that interdimensional travel is part of Avengers: Endgame, then it gives the movie another element that many were not previously considering. This could potentially open up the door for a true multiverse to be born, which is something Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson teased a few years ago as the future of the MCU. That said, directors Anthony and Joe Russo have previously said that alternate realities were not part of their plans for these two Avengers films. They did previously lie about the title in the press though, so they could’ve done the same here to try and protect elements of the film. Thankfully, Avengers: Endgame will be in theaters shortly and everyone will get to see how the movie plays out.

Avengers: Chris Evans & Scarlett Johansson Play Game Boy on Endgame Set

Playing Game Boy was Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson’s activity of choice to pass time on the set of Avengers: Endgame. Two of the original six Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, they play Steve Rogers/Captain America and Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, respectively. Considering they’re already MCU veterans by now, the actors seem to have mastered the art of entertaining themselves while waiting during long filming days on these Marvel Studios movies.

The culmination of everything that has transpired in its universe for the last decade, Endgame was shot back-to-back with Avengers: Infinity War. The films were originally slated to be Part 1 and 2 with the same group of creative people behind them, including directors Joe and Anthony Russo and writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. They eventually decided to split the movies, but stuck to its initial schedule of working on it one after the other, with some days overlapping. Because of this, the cast and crew spent a total of eight months in principal photography, with reshoots taking place in September 2018, and additional filming early this year. Given the long working days, it makes sense that the actors found their own ways to pass time while waiting for their turns in front of the camera.

Now, thanks to a photo from Mark Ruffalo shared on his official Twitter account, fans know what was keeping Evans and Johansson busy during downtime on the set of Endgame, with the snap featuring the two engaged in a Game Boy battle. Both actors seemed to enjoy whatever they’re playing on the old school console, but based on their looks, this was taken at a time where they were filming the latter part of the film, with Johansson sporting a longer red hair and Evans clean-shaven. Check out the image below:

Given the massive cast list for Infinity War, Evans’ and Johansson’s MCU characters were largely sidelined in last year’s event movie. Aside from that one battle sequence with Sam Wilson/Falcon and key moments during the big battle in Wakanda, the two didn’t do much in the film. However, based on the footage fans have seen so far for Endgame, Cap and Widow appear to be the ones rallying the team for their upcoming mission. They’re expected to assemble the remaining heroes and play a pivotal part in concocting a plan to defeat Thanos. Rogers, in particular, who left his leadership duties following his falling out with Tony Stark in Captain America: Civil War, seems to be leading the pack again for their next outing.

While Evans is largely believed to be exiting the MCU after Avengers: Endgame, things are quite different for Johansson, with a Black Widow film on the way. Kevin Feige and his team have yet to officially announce the project, but things are moving along, with Cate Shortland tapped to helm the movie. That doesn’t mean though that she’s guaranteed to survive the events of the upcoming film, with her standalone movie expected to be a prequel.

RDJ & Chris Evans Make Fun of Captain America’s Avengers Costume

Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans make fun of Captain America’s costume from The Avengers. It’s been almost seven years since the Joss Whedon directed blockbuster brought together all MCU Phase 1 heroes for an epic mission against Loki. Much has happened to the characters since then, both collectively and separately, but they’re all set to band back together at the end of this month for Avengers: Endgame.

Hailed as the culmination of everything that’s transpired in the MCU, the film is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, with the story written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The movie’s global press tour is in full swing following its big L.A. press conference this week. But considering the burning anticipation for the film, evidenced by the ridiculously high demand for tickets that clogged several online retailing sites, Marvel Studios can probably get away with not executing any traditional marketing. That said, the fact that it could be the final mission for Downey’s Tony Stark/Iron Man and Evans’ Steve Rogers/Captain America as well as their Phase 1 cohorts means the multi-city press activities are providing fans some great engagements among actors, including this latest one.

Related: Robert Downey Jr. Jokes About Giving Back Captain America’s Shield

It all started with Downey posting a short clip of Evans on the set of The Avengers having difficulties putting his parachute on as they go off to follow Loki after he’s been snatched by Thor. Captioning his tweet “This is what happens when they aren’t designed by Stark” and tagging Evans, it was funny in itself, but his co-star’s reply elevated the hilarity. Quoting Downey’s original upload, Evans retorted by tweeting: “I’m assuming you mean the parachute. However you DID design that costume, so I think they cancel each other out.” The two playfully ribbing each other online isn’t a new thing, but fans nevertheless dig it, especially considering their supposedly numbered days in the MCU. Check out their back-and-forth exchange below:

While Downey and Evans have really good rapport outside of their superhero personas, things are a bit different with their characters. Stark and Rogers have repeatedly argued during their stint as Avengers members, but they’ve always resolved it at the end of the day for the greater good. That wasn’t the case, however, when the events of Captain America: Civil War happened. Between their discord about the Sokovia Accords and Bucky’s involvement with the death of Howard and Maria Stark, the movie ended with the the pair going separate ways. This made it easier for Thanos to attack, seeing the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes fractured, and eventually win in Avengers: Infinity War. But with another chance at defeating the Mad Titan in Endgame, Stark and Rogers need to come together to put up a united front against the intergalactic villain.

Them patching things up has already been teased in the film’s special look, but with the Russo’s admitting to footage manipulation, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that their actual reunion is saved for the film. Regardless,  it’ll be one of the most emotional moments in the Phase 3 capper. As for Cap’s (and the team’s) newest red and white suit for the upcoming film, there’s a good chance that Stark may have something to do with it. But with the concept of time travel factoring into its narrative, fans will see Evans don his old suit circa the Battle of New York, as revealed in prior set photos.

It’s an understatement to say that a pivotal part of the reason why the MCU has become this successful is because of its actors, particularly its pioneering ones. Despite a couple of re-castings, the core six remained intact throughout the years since The Avengers until Endgame. As fans grew invested in their characters, they’ve also become more interested in the actors themselves, and it’s easier to get behind them considering that they genuinely seem to get along and enjoy what they’re doing.

Chris Hemsworth Joins Jay and Silent Bob Reboot

Chris Hemsworth is joining the cast of Kevin Smith’s upcoming Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. The film is a sequel of 2001’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, which was the first standalone film for the titular duo played by Jason Mewes and Smith himself.

Smith’s View Askewniverse started with the low-budget, black and white comedy Clerks in 1994, and later included everything from Mallrats to Dogma. Jay and Silent Bob appear in all of these films, and eventually starred in their own film, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Now, Smith is bringing the stoner duo to a feature film yet again with Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, in which they attempt to stop Hollywood from rebooting Bluntman and Chronic, a comic book first introduced in Chasing Amy. With an already massive cast that includes Joe Manganiello, Rosario Dawson, and Jason Lee, yet another major talent is joining the film.

Chris Hemsworth announced on Instagram that he’ll be joining Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. He posted a series of photos of himself and Smith in front of a green screen, with the caption: “The man, the myth, the legend. The one and only @thatkevinsmith !!! Stoked to be a part of his next film Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. What a pleasure it was hanging out mate.” However, despite the handful of pictures, the extent of his involvement is so far unknown. Check out his Instagram post below:

Though most details surrounding Jay and Silent Bob Reboot may be under wraps, it’s no mystery that the truly secret project with which Hemsworth is involved is Avengers: Endgame. Interestingly enough, it turns out that Smith’s View Askewniverse actually exists within the MCU. The script for Mallrats gets a quick – and significant – cameo during a major action sequence in Captain Marvel.

As for Hemsworth joining the View Askewniverse, the actor is no stranger to comedy. Even though he made a name for himself as an action star in the MCU, he proved his comedic chops in Thor: Ragnarok including a short film titled Team Thor – and then he went full slapstick in the Ghostbusters remake before his brief appearance in Vacation. With Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, Hemsworth is showing audiences that he has no intention of taking himself too seriously, which looks to be the case yet again in Men in Black International.

Chris Hemsworth Is Up For a Team Thor Mockumentary Series

Chris Hemsworth would love to reunite with Thor’s roommate, Darryl, for a Team Thor mockumentary TV show. Back in 2016, after the events in Captain America: Civil War and before the release of Thor: Ragnarok, Marvel Studios released a short film titled Team Thor, directed by Taika Waititi, showing what the God of Thunder was up to while his teammates were busy fighting.

In it, we learned that Thor decided to take a break in Australia and spend some time with a mortal, so he moved in with a local, an office worker named Darryl. The short was so well received by both audiences and critics that it had two sequels: Team Thor 2 and Team Darryl, the latter featuring Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster. A lot has happened in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since those Thor and Darryl days, but Hemsworth would like to go back to that at some point.

Related: Thor: Ragnarok Makes Hercules Unnecessary For The MCU

In an interview with MTV International during the press tour for Avengers: Endgame, Hemsworth was asked if he would be up for a Marvel TV show based on Team Thor/Darryl. Hemsworth shared he would love to do that and show the “day-to-day adventures” of this unusual but very special pair. He said:

I’d love to do that. I’d love to see Darryl more. I’d love to do a mockumentary TV show of us living together and rooming together and our day to day adventures outside of saving the world, just sort of the regular stuff. I thought that was a lot of fun to shoot and also I think it’d be cool to have a TV show like that, yeah. Surfing, fishing, we go to a pub. It’d be good fun.

Avengers: Endgame will be the last film for some of the original Avengers (for contractual reasons), including Hemsworth – though that doesn’t necessarily mean something deathly will happen to Thor. Some members of the original Avengers roster already have their post-Endgame future solved, such as Black Widow with her solo film and now Hawkeye with his own series, but Thor’s future is uncertain… For now, at least.

However, that uncertainty is no obstacle for Hemsworth, who already has some projects coming up after Endgame. We will see him alongside his Thor: Ragnarok co-star Tessa Thompson in Men in Black: International, to be released this summer, and he recently finished filming Dhaka, directed by Sam Hargrave and written by Endgame co-director, Joe Russo.

It’s unknown if characters like Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man will appear in future MCU films, but in case they don’t, a Thor/Darryl mockumentary would be a special (and very fun) way of saying “goodbye” to this universe and the fans that have followed the Asgardian God’s journey through all these years – and if they can get Waititi back as director and producer, all the better.

Chris Hemsworth Vandalizes Avengers Posters On Endgame Press Tour

During the current press tour for Avengers: Endgame, Chris Hemsworth took the time to hilariously vandalize the posters of a few co-stars. The cast is ramping up their public appearances ahead of the highly-anticipated film, which premieres later this month. Avengers: Endgame will close out a chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that has been a decade in the making.

Hemsworth will reprise his role as Thor for the movie that follows the fallout from Thanos’ deadly snap. With half of the population gone, Thor and the rest of the Avengers will team up with a few newer faces to take down the Mad Titan, while also figuring out a way to get their loved ones back. Whether that includes time travel through the Quantum Realm or some other option, the Avengers have vowed in the trailer to do “whatever it takes.”

While Marvel continues to highlight those who have fallen due to the “Decimation,” publicity ahead of Avengers: Endgame’s release continues to be grim. During the recent press conference, many chairs were purposely left empty for main characters that were killed in Avengers: Infinity War. That didn’t stop Hemsworth from having some laughs during the press tour. Hemsworth took to Instagram to show off the fun he had with the posters of his fellow co-stars.

In the short video, Hemsworth can be seen vandalizing Avengers: Endgame posters displayed along a hallway. First, he adds a goatee and mustache to Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man poster before showing the changes he made to Captain America’s brooding look. Hemsworth then adds a little “I Heart Thor” note to Robert Downey Jr.’s poster. He eventually adds luscious eyelashes to Jeremy Renner, but not before passing Gwenyth Paltrow’s poster, claiming she’s already “too pretty,” so she doesn’t need any alters.

Hemworth has been chronicling his time on the Avengers: Endgame press tour in recent days. He has taken to social media to share pictures of himself goofing off with co-stars. Hemsworth was also in attendance when some of the cast surprised kids at a Disneyland charity event. The Marvel star was joined by fellow cast members Robert Downey Jr., Brie Larson, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Rudd, and Jeremy Renner, as well as Disney CEO Bob Iger.

There is no word yet if Hemsworth has a future in the MCU beyond Avengers: Endgame. It seems inevitable that not all of the original Avengers will survive the impending battle against Thanos. Whether or not Hemsworth returns to reprise his role as Thor, the actor still has multiple projects in the near future. Besides appearing in the upcoming Men in Black spin-off, Men in Black: International, Hemsworth is already lined up to portray Hulk Hogan in a Netflix biopic.

Thor’s Chris Hemsworth Welcomes Deadpool To The Disney & Marvel Family

Chris Hemsworth welcomes Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool to the Marvel family after the completion of the Disney-Fox deal. Although there are many facets to Disney’s now official acquisition of Fox’s film and TV assets, the one that has undoubtedly received the most attention (for better or worse) is the reality that Marvel Studios will have access to the X-Men and Fantastic Four for the first time. Marvel has yet to confirm their plans for the characters, but a major reboot is expected.

While this will mean that new versions of Wolverine, Professor X, and more will eventually join the MCU, the fate of Deadpool may not be the same. Recent reports have indicated that Reynolds will continue to play Deadpool in the future, although whether or not it is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains to be seen. For his part, Reynolds has already made some Deadpool-style jokes about the deal and they should continue whenever he appears next.

Related: What The Fox/Disney Deal Means For Marvel’s Future

Now that Deadpool is officially a Disney character, Thor himself is taking time to welcome his fellow superhero to the family. Thor star Chris Hemsworth, who may make his final appearance in the MCU later this year in Avengers: Endgame, took to Instagram to share a fun image of what he says is Deadpool and Thor’s “love child.”

Even though this is just a piece of art shared by Hemsworth, it does go to show how effortlessly Deadpool can slide into the MCU. He may not wear Thor’s helmet or wield a miniature Mjolnir if it does happen, but the Avengers patch on his shoulder doesn’t look too out of place. Deadpool may not actually be accepted as an official member of Earth’s mightiest heroes, but it would not be surprising if Reynolds drew some inspiration from this art and had Deadpool incorporate recognizable MCU gear into his look next time around, even if it was just for a moment.

With Hemsworth helping welcome Reynolds to the Disney family, fans will surely be holding out hope that Thor and Deadpool can possibly cross paths in the future. We don’t yet know exactly what either of their futures are at this point, as Hemsworth could leave Thor behind after Endgame and Disney’s exact plans for Deadpool are still a mystery. This could result in the two characters never getting a chance to meet on screen, so maybe Reynolds’ Deadpool will get a mini Mjolnir of his own to honor him. Since Marvel Studios has only had access to Deadpool and the rest of Fox’s Marvel characters for a few days, it will still take some time before we know for sure what Deadpool’s future is with Disney, but we can only hope it includes a Thor meet up now.

Phil Lord & Chris Miller Interview: The LEGO Movie 2

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part literally builds on the first film, exploring how a bright and positive hero like Emmet deals with a world in which everything is not actually awesome. Screenwriters Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who also directed the first LEGO Movie, shared how our hero’s choices act as a critique on toxic masculinity as well as how they themselves expanded on the legacy of the franchise’s previous films.

Screen Rant: I just wanna know what draws you guys back to animation again and again, because you keep pushing boundaries in it – both visually and in terms of story.

Chris Miller: Well, that’s a big part of it. We feel like animation is a medium and not a genre, and there’s so many different ways to tell a story. This past year and a half, we spent working a lot on these two animated movies that couldn’t look more different but also have a lot in common in terms of a lot of the same themes like collaboration and inclusion and all sorts of stuff like that. And also try to put out a positive message and be funny and full of heart.

Phil Lord: And they’re both really ambitious, that’s another thing that we’re proud of. Both of these movies are going for it and not playing it safe.

Screen Rant: One of the themes that I noticed at least was in this last movie especially, but also in the original LEGO Movie and LEGO Batman, was sort of a critique on toxic masculinity.

Phil Lord: A little bit.

Screen Rant: We’ve got Emmet who thinks he’s got to toughen up to save the day, but it’s his soft side that wins. And of course Batman is a parody of a lone wolf, but really he just needs love.

Chris Miller: Then he found love!

Phil Lord: He’s psychologically a disaster.

Screen Rant: So was that a conscious choice that you guys made, and how did you approach that subject?

Chris Miller: From the very beginning, we were thinking about [how] we made this song in the first one called “Everything is Awesome, and it’s not really true. You know, everything in the world isn’t actually awesome. There’s a point when you grow up and you start to realize that, and you can make a choice in your life. Once I realize that, am I gonna get cynical and angry and harden my heart, or are you gonna make a choice to be positive and empathetic and kind? And we think that’s actually a more mature thing to do, and so…

Phil Lord: When you’re a middle schooler, you perform this idea of what a grown-up is supposed to act like. You’re supposed to be above it all, and you’re basically just protecting yourself from vulnerability. And when you grow out of that, ideally, at least we’ve figured out that it’s more brave and more mature to be kind.

Screen Rant: Speaking of “Everything is Awesome, one thing I found fascinating was how the Systar System really was just like a musical. It really did feel like music was the universal language.

Chris Miller: They love pop music there.

Screen Rant: What was the inspiration behind that?

Chris Miller: A lot of it was watching my kids and other families really just dance around to “Everything Is Awesome and have them be so happy and full of joy, and thinking, “Well, if we’re gonna do another movie, we should build on that idea. What if the sister is really into pop music that a kid who’s 13 who wants to be cool would find super gross?

Phil Lord: He thinks it’s really annoying.

Chris Miller: So the idea that that would be a really aggravating thing to him seemed like it was a funny place to start. Then we got to work with a lot of really cool and talented musicians and have all these funny songs.

Phil Lord: And we fell for the songs, you now, and just the act of trying to make them really good and appealing and say something. It’s a delightful challenge.

Screen Rant: I noticed the Flash was just not really there with the Justice League.

Chris Miller: He is… Oh, he wasn’t in the Systar System. He was moving so fast, he was moving so fast.

Phil Lord: He’s really busy.

Chris Miller: There’s a lot to do before the big ceremony. You probably didn’t notice him zipping in the background.

Phil Lord: A lot of errands that he runs. That was not by design. He winds up in the spaceship, though, right? He doesn’t quite make the trip.

X-Men’s Chris Claremont Thinks Idris Elba Should Play Bishop

One of the most important writers in the history of the X-Men franchise has made his choice for who should play the time-traveling mutant known as Bishop in future X-Men projects, as Chris Claremont has declared on Facebook that Idris Elba should take on the role.

Claremont is widely considered to be the most important writer in the history of the X-Men comic books. The team was originally created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, but it’s Claremont’s stint as a writer on Uncanny X-Men that helped propel the team to mainstream status, as he created and co-created the iconic “The Dark Phoenix Saga” and “Days of Future Past” storylines, the former of which is being loosely adapted for the next X-Men movie. It should be mentioned that Claremont created lots of famous X-Men characters during his tenure as writer, but Bishop was not one of them, as he was created by John Byrne and Whilce Portacio.

Related: Idris Elba In Talks To Lead Max Landis’ Supernatural Thriller Deeper

Claremont put up a post on Facebook talking about the trailer for the upcoming Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw movie, in which Elba plays the leader of a terrorist organization. It was after seeing Elba playing a villain role in the trailer that Claremont took to Facebook to talk about how he would be an amazing choice for his vision of Bishop in future X-Men movie projects.

Elba already has a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where he plays Heimdall of Asgard. The last time we saw Heimdall was when he was being slain at the start of Avengers: Infinity War, but he ‘s playing a Norse god and this is a comic book movie, so he could easily be brought back to life in a future film.

Bishop has already appeared in the X-Men movie franchise as one of the mutants from the future timeline in X-Men: Days of Future Past, where he was played by Omar Sy. The movie version of Bishop was only a minor character, which is in stark contrast to the comic book version of the character. The original version of Bishop from the comics was a mutant who was sent back in time to stop the X-Men from being betrayed by one of their own, which served as a running storyline for years until it was revealed that Charles Xavier himself was the traitor. The Disney-Fox Acquisition seems to be bringing the X-Men movie franchise to a close, which means that Marvel’s mutants will soon be free to join the MCU, where they’ll all almost certainly be recast. If Heimdall has truly met his end at the hands of Thanos and his servants, then there is nothing stopping Elba from playing Bishop.

The famous “Days of Future Past” storyline has already been adapted into a movie, but that film based the time travel plot around Kitty Pryde and Wolverine. The lack of focus on Bishop in that film opens up the possibility of him playing a major role in one of the upcoming X-Men movies, as the traitor storyline (along with the “Onslaught” storyline that it led into) have yet to be adapted for the movies. It’s possible that Claremont’s casting wish might come true in the future.
