Hobbs & Shaw Photo: Idris Elba’s Fast & Furious Villain Revealed

Dwayne Johnson has posted the first photo of Idris Elba as the villainous Brixton in the Fast & Furious spinoff, Hobbs and Shaw. The Rock has arguably become as central to the illegal street racing series-turned international juggernaut that is Fast & Furious as Vin Diesel, following his debut as Luke Hobbs from 2011’s Fast Five… and he has the box office receipts to prove it. Hence, it’s not surprising that Universal has decided to prioritize a spinoff movie that centers around Johnson’s character and pairs him opposite Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw, especially after the two actors discovered they have crackling onscreen chemistry while filming last year’s Fate of the Furious.

Hobbs and Shaw officially began shooting last month, with David Leitch (Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2) calling the shots from a script by Fast & Furious franchise writer/producer Chris Morgan. Not much is known about the film’s actual narrative, admittedly, but it’s probably fair to assume that Elba’s character is a suave British mercenary of sorts (Is there any other kind of British mercenary in the movies?) who’s out to profit from his terrorist ways. And of course, the only ones who stand in his way are Hobbs, Shaw, and Mission: Impossible – Fallout‘s Vanessa Kirby as (reportedly) Shaw’s sister, an MI-5 agent.

Related: Vanessa Kirby’s Hobbs & Shaw Character is ‘Absolutely the Boss’

Johnson published the first photo of Elba in character for Hobbs and Shaw on his Instagram account and, in doing so, confirmed the mysterious baddie’s name. Take a look in the space below:

Hobbs and Shaw‘s Brixton will be but the latest villain role in a major franchise movie that Elba adds to his belt, to go along with his voice work as the tiger Shere Khan in Disney’s live-action The Jungle Book remake and his performance as the antagonist Krall in Star Trek Beyond. As compelling as the actor can be when he’s playing the nobler type onscreen (even an extremely flawed hero like the DCI John Luther on the TV series Luther), he generally makes for an equally charismatic and engaging threat to the good guys in his big screen appearances.

The Fast & Furious movies have stepped up their own villain game over the past five years by bringing in top-tier talent like Luke Evans, Charlize Theron and – once upon a time – even Statham to take on the franchise’s heroes. However, with Elba stepping into Brixton’s (fancy) shoes, there’s a pretty good chance that Hobbs and Shaw will end up delivering the most memorable bad guy that the series has seen to date.

Spider-Man: Far From Home First Teaser Poster Spotted At Licensing Expo

Sony’s Spider-Man: Far From Home gets a teaser poster as the promotional image is spotted at the Brand Licensing Europe 2018 event in London. Thanks to a deal between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Civil War. Since then, Holland’s wall-crawling superhero has headlined his own movie in Spider-Man: Homecoming and teamed up with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Infinity War. Next, Spidey will return for Avengers 4, then the beloved Marvel hero will kick off Phase 4 of the MCU with Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Despite Peter Parker becoming the victim of Thanos’ snap as part of Infinity War’s cliffhanger ending, we know the web-head will return somehow – whether that means Avengers 4 will use time travel, though, remains to be seen. Holland and stars of Homecoming returned to work this summer as Spider-Man: Far From Home has been filming across Europe. Set photos from the Spider-Man sequel have offered looks at MCU characters joining the Sony movie, including Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill. Now, a promo poster for Spider-Man: Far From Home has also surfaced.

Instagram user Dirtees posted a group of photos from the floor of the Brand Licensing Europe 2018 expo in London, United Kingdom this week. The fourth photo in the post (which can be located by clicking through the series of photos below) features a hanging promotion image for Spider-Man: Far From Home. It appears to be an image of Spider-Man from Homecoming that was repurposed with the Spider-Man: Far From Home movie logo. Take a look at the image below.

Of course, Sony can use images of Spider-Man from Homecoming for the Far From Home posters because Peter Parker is expected to be wearing the same superhero suit. Previously, Holland confirmed Spider-Man will wear the Homecoming suit in the sequel, despite upgrading to the Iron-Spider suit for Infinity War. However, based on Far From Home set photos, Spider-Man will also don a stealth suit that’s all black. Fans have theorized this suit is inspired by Spider-Man Noir, but how exactly Spidey gets the black suit for Far From Home remains to be seen. All we know for now is that Peter Parker will trade in his red and blue costume for something more covert (or, perhaps it’s a separate mode built into the old suit by Tony Stark).

Unfortunately, this Spider-Man: Far From Home promotional poster doesn’t reveal anything new from the movie – neither in terms of the web-head’s suit nor otherwise. That said, with Far From Home set to hit theaters in July 2019, we aren’t too far off from Sony kicking off marketing for the Spider-Man sequel. While there are two MCU movies due in theaters before Far From HomeCaptain Marvel and Avengers 4 – their close release dates mean the marketing pushes for each film will inevitably overlap. Plus, given how secretive Marvel Studios has been with Avengers 4, it’s entirely possible we’ll see some official artwork for Spider-Man: Far From Home even before the Phase 3 capper releases a trailer. For now, fans will have to wait and see – and make due with Holland’s occasional social media reveals and the Spider-Man: Far From Home set photos.

Zoe Saldana Teases Her Return As Gamora On Avengers 4 Set

Zoe Saldana teases her return as Gamora in Avengers 4. Even before reshoots for the Phase 3 capper began, the actress already let it slip that she’d be back as Gamora, despite her fate in Avengers: Infinity War. However, it wasn’t until now that fans finally learned that she’s partaking in the scheduled reshoots that will serve to wrap-up the blockbuster sequel.

One of the most integral relationships in Infinity War was that of Gamora and Thanos, who were finally reunited for the first time following the former joining the Guardians of the Galaxy. Despite what his adopted daughter thought of him, it turns out that the intergalactic villain did love Gamora, which helped make the Mad Titan compelling to viewers. With his goal of balancing the universe now fulfilled, Thanos is enjoying retirement, but with the surviving heroes gearing up to avenge the universe following the galactic genocide, the original Avengers may have one more ally to help them take down Thanos, in the form of Gamora.

Taking to Instagram, Saldana posted an image of her getting prepped to reprise the Gamora role for Avengers 4. The caption may have indicated “flashback,” but it could very well be in reference to Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon,” which lyrics she used in the caption. Additionally, actress Karen Gillan (Gamora’s sister Nebula) also added an Instagram story of her being made-up, using it to announce her last day on set. While some wondered if Saldana’s post might have been a throwback to a prior shoot, the fact that Gillan was on set at the same time lends credence to Saldana’s image being new. Check out Saldana and Gillan’s posts below.

While it’s no secret that Avengers 4 will bring back characters who were dead by the end of Infinity War, resurrecting Gamora will be a bit trickier compared to those who were affected by Thanos’ snap. Instead of being turned to dust, the character was thrown off a cliff, as her life was sacrificed in exchange for the Mad Titan to get the Soul Stone. Of course, since fans don’t really know much about how exactly the exchange works – with a young Gamora seemingly reunited with Thanos in the Soul World – there’s a possibility that she was just trapped in the alternate dimension like some popular theories claim. That said, Marvel Studios would have to craft a solid explanation if they decide to revive her, so as not to cheapen the impact of her emotional death in Avengers 3.

Otherwise, Gamora can appear in Avengers 4 in flashbacks or via time travel. Loki, who also died differently from those who were snapped out of existence, looks likely to make a return in the still-untitled sequel, after leaked set images made their way online last year. His involvement, however, is believed to be limited to flashbacks, as the film revisits the Battle of New York, which he was an integral part of. Considering Gamora’s large part in Thanos’ history, not to mention the fact that Nebula is still around, the sisters’ relationship with their adoptive father could be further explored, and might even factor into the villain’s defeat.

Shameless Star Cameron Monaghan Leaving Show After Next Episode

Cameron Monaghan, who portrays Ian Gallagher on Shameless, has revealed that the next episode of the show will be his last. The Showtime series, adapted from the U.K. comedy-drama of the same name, is currently airing its ninth season. And Monagahn isn’t the only one exiting the acclaimed show: this news comes on the heels of star Emmy Rossum’s own announcement that she will be exiting the series at the end of the season.

Monaghan, who has been acting since he was a child, landed his first starring role playing Ian, one of the middle children of the Gallagher family who, along with their neighbors in a low-income neighborhood in Chicago’s South Side, struggle to get by in a changing landscape. Gallagher’s character has faced a lot of hardship on the show, from coming out to his family to dealing with his bipolar disorder. The actor has received recognition for playing the character, especially for the relationship between Ian and Mickey, his first boyfriend, but now he feels that it’s time to go.

Monaghan shared the news on Instagram in a long caption accompanying images of himself and some of his castmates, including Ethan Cutkosky (Carl Gallagher), Jeremy Allen White (Lip Gallagher), Steve Howey (Kevin “Kev” Ball), and Shanola Hampton (Veronica “V” Fisher). In his statement, Monaghan explains that he has known that he would be leaving the show for a year, but kept it a secret, wanting viewers to be surprised and to “experience Ian’s unsure journey with his character.”

Monaghan recalls how he began filming when he was 15, and how much he has grown in the nearly 10 years since. He notes that he is “gracious” for everything the experience brought him, especially the people he met on the show. “All good things must come to an end,” he proclaims, noting the cliche. He ends his statement by thanking the fans for watching and signing off with a question about the future: “Goodbye, Ian Clayton Gallagher. We’ll meet again?”

Though it’s sad to see Monaghan go, it does free up his schedule for his other notable TV role(s). Monaghan recurs on Gotham as twin brothers Jerome and Jeremiah Valeska, who bear a resemblance to Batman’s nemesis, the Joker. From the beginning, the show has teased that Jerome could be the Joker, but neither he nor Jeremiah has ever been officially given the moniker. As the show prepares to enter its final season, word has spread that there’s yet another Joker on the horizon, and this one might be the real deal. Audiences will find out when Gotham season 5 five premieres early next year.

Arrowverse Creator Addresses Ruby Rose Batwoman Casting Controversy

Arrowverse co-creator Greg Berlanti is finally addressing the ongoing controversy surrounding Ruby Rose’s casting as Batwoman in The CW’s DC Comics-based shared universe. Earlier this summer, it was announced ahead of San Diego Comic-Con that the network would be adding Batwoman to the list of their already extensive DC superheroes, with the potential to spin off the character into her own standalone series down the line. Then, it was later revealed that Rose had been cast as the titular character.

Shortly after the announcement of Rose’s casting as Batwoman, the actress suffered from a sudden wave of bullying, which ultimately amounted to relentless gate-keeping. Some people believed that she simply wasn’t right for the part, which is a fair opinion to have of someone who has been cast in a notable role, but then there were plenty of others who attacked the actress for not being gay enough to portray Kate Kane. It wasn’t long after that Rose decided to shut down her Twitter account and close off her Instagram comments to the public as a result.

In an interview with THR at the Los Angeles LGBT Center Vanguard Awards in September, Arrowverse franchise producer Greg Berlanti addressed the controversy surrounding Ruby Rose’s casting as Batwoman, saying that outrage against certain decisions is a tale as old as time in Hollywood. However, it’s not something that producers should be fazed by. Here’s what he said in full:

“Whenever you’re bringing change about in any form, there are always conversations that happen. I go all the way back to Dawson’s Creek. Twitter didn’t exist, but we would get boxes of letters expressing opinions in all directions from were we making enough change, should we be making more change, or why did we feel like we needed to do these things? It’s always part of the process, so just focus on the story and make the best episode that you can.”

Berlanti also made sure to point out that the potential Batwoman TV series was still in the pilot stage. For those that aren’t aware, Rose is slated to make her debut as the iconic superhero in this year’s Arrowverse crossover event, Elseworlds, which will take place across three shows – Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl; Legends of Tomorrow will not be joining the crossover this time – over three nights. Furthermore, the entire crossover is supposed to take place in Gotham, which audiences saw for the first time in the official Elseworlds poster that debuted earlier this month.

Whether the network gives Batwoman a series order remains to be seen, but the character’s popularity and the potential for more stories centered in Gotham will most likely be determined by the Elseworlds crossover this December. Regardless of all the bullying Rose has received online, she is still on board to portray Kate Kane in her first live-action television debut. In fact, Arrow star Stephen Amell recently teased Rose trying on the Batwoman costume for the first time, seeing as the cast and crew should be filming the crossover soon (if they haven’t done so already).

Monster Hunter: Milla Jovovich Posts First Image From Movie Set

Milla Jovovich shares the first look at the Monster Hunter movie as production begins. Capcom launched the first installment of the Monster Hunter video game franchise in 2004, and it’s grown immensely ever since. Earlier this year, latest installment Monster Hunter World became the studio’s best-selling game ever. This excitement for the franchise in video game form comes at the perfect time, as a live-action movie adaptation is in the works.

Jovovich first broke out via 1997’s The Fifth Element, and just five years later would find herself leading an action franchise of her own. She’s no stranger to adapting video games to cinemas, after playing the lead role of Alice in six Resident Evil movies, with the franchise concluding in 2016. Now, she’s set to star in another video game adaptation with Monster Hunter, and she’s sharing her excitement as the project takes a major step forward.

The Monster Hunter star posted on Instagram the first look at the movie, kind of. Jovovich shared an image of her in the makeup trailer on the set. She confirmed that production is now underway, and offered up the first tease of her character Artemis, reportedly the leader of a U.N. military team.

Fans of the video game series may have wished a first look image would possibly show off some of the monsters Jovovich and company will be hunting, but this tease of her character will have to do. She clearly hasn’t been taking it easy either. Based on the dirt and blood that covers most of Jovovich, her character may have recently been on the hunt for a monster or two. Of course, those monsters will surely be created through CGI, and since production is just now beginning, any such looks likely are not ready.

To bring Monster Hunter to the big screen, Jovovich is reuniting with her Resident Evil director (and husband) Paul W.S. Anderson. The quality of their collaborations can be debated, but they’ve at least shown the ability to make mid-tier action movies based on a video game property that can make a lot of money at the box office. Jovovich won’t be the only one hunting these monsters though, as Ron Perlman and T.I. Harris previously joined the cast. Other additions include Diego Boneta and Tony Jaa, with more casting announcements still possibly coming. After all, filming just began on Monster Hunter in Cape Town, South Africa, so more updates could be on the way, whether officially or through posts by its star.

Conor McGregor After UFC Loss Says “I’ll Be Back”

Conor McGregor confirms he’ll return to the world of the UFC. After a five year career of MMA fighting, with an 11-2 record, McGregor made the transition to the UFC. He was victorious in his first fight, which put him on a pursuit for title shots. He won his first seven UFC matches overall, earning the nickname “The Notorious” during this stretch. He won the UFC Interim Featherweight Championship in 2015 by defeating Chad Mendes, and then defended the belt by defeating Jose Aldo. It wasn’t until 2016 where he was handed his first UFC loss by Nate Diaz, but he quickly rebounded to defeat him in a rematch, and then beat Eddie Alvarez to win the UFC Lightweight Championship – making him the first fighter to simultaneously hold two different UFC belts.

McGregor went on a hiatus after this feat to prepare for the birth of his child, and also challenge Floyd “Money” Mayweather to a boxing match. He was stripped of both belts as a result of inactivity, but immediately had the shot to win the Lightweight belt back in his return fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov. The match didn’t go his way, nor did the insane post-fight antics by Khabib and his team, but McGregor isn’t backing down.

Related: What Exactly Happened at the End of the McGregor-Khabib Fight?

McGregor took to Instagram shortly after the fight concluded, revealing that his status with the UFC has not changed. He assured his fans that he’ll return to the octagon, it’s just when that remains to be seen. To make the announcement, he channeled his inner Arnold Schwarzenegger by saying, “I’ll be back.”

McGregor’s return should’ve been expected, as he could very well get another title shot through a rematch in the near future. The investigations surrounding Khabib and his team could ultimately strip him of his Lightweight belt, so even if McGregor gets a chance to win that belt back, there’s no guarantee that it would be a straight up rematch, as it could end up being against a different challenger.

McGregor is known to let his brash personality get the best of him, but he was largely restrained during all the commotion post-fight. McGregor handled the loss in a professional manner, which is why the UFC isn’t investigating his involvement in these events any further. He may have been responsible for some pre-fight mayhem that could’ve cost him his UFC career, but he appears to possibly have learned from it and handled himself much better here. Considering how he’s responded to the outcome and chaos that ensued after, the UFC may look to get the star back in the octagon for another fight sooner rather than later. McGregor is clearly ready to return, now its just up to the UFC to figure out how and when.

Tyrion Lannister Will Get a Beautiful GoT Ending, According to Peter Dinklage

Peter Dinklage promises that Tyrion Lannister will get a beautiful ending on Game of Thrones. Viewers will just have to wait to find out if it’s a happy one. Dinklage has been portraying the fan favorite character for the show’s entire run, beginning in 2011.

Based on George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, Game of Thrones is set to conclude when the show returns for its 8th season next year. The show originally hewed closely to the source material, but diverged in later seasons as it began to outpace Martin’s novels. With his sixth installment no closer to release, showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss have decided that the upcoming six-episode season will also be the show’s last. Martin, certain Thrones could continue on for many years, was stunned by this revelation.

Related: Game of Thrones: Jon Snow’s Direwolf Is Returning For Final Season

According to ET, Peter Dinklage had only positive things to say about next year’s finale. He stated, “There are no better writers in television than Dan Weiss and David Benioff. They ended it brilliantly. Better than I could have imagined and you people are in for it. It ends beautifully for my character whether it be tragic or not.”

Martin wasn’t the only one surprised and saddened by the news that Thrones would be ending its run so soon. Fans are already going through withdrawal, counting the days until the show returns. Season 7 ended in August 2017 and all viewers know for certain is that “winter is coming” sometime in 2019.

Dinklage’s statement may not be entirely comforting, but it’s not exactly shocking either. Both the series and Martin’s novels have never been shy about killing off major characters, regardless of how beloved they may be. This is not to say that Tyrion won’t survive the finale, but Dinklage’s comments certainly leave room for that to be the case. Without Martin’s novels as a blueprint, little is known about how the series will wrap up. Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, feels that the ending may prove divisive among fans.

The show’s final details have been shrouded in secrecy, with the scripts disappearing as soon as the episodes are shot. Fans have been scouring the internet for clues and some feel that Turner’s direwolf tattoo and Maisie Williams’s cryptic Instagram post both point to the survival of at least some of the Starks. The rampant speculation is to be expected. Game of Thrones has become a worldwide phenomenon and most viewers will be sad to see it go, regardless of whether the ending is satisfying or not. At least a prequel series was ordered earlier this year, so audiences won’t have to completely bid farewell to Westeros just yet.

Henry Cavill Responds To Superman Exit Reports With Cryptic Instagram Post

Henry Cavill is making his future as the DCEU’s Superman even more confusing. The DC movie unniverse and its legion of fans exploded today when news surfaced that Cavill was looking to exit as Superman. He’s made three appearances since first debuting in Man of Steel, but a lack of movement on a true sequel and contract disputes looked to signal the end of his tenure as the Last Son of Krypton.

However, this report has only become more confusing as the hours have passed. Cavill’s manager teased that he may still have a future, while Warner Bros. official stance was that no decisions have been made. Well, now the Man of Steel himself is responding to the rumors in a very cryptic way – but it may point to good news.

Related: Zack Snyder Reacts to Henry Cavill’s Superman Exit

Cavill posted a video on his Instagram just moments ago that held the caption, “Today was exciting #Superman.” The video itself, which you can see below, shows him wearing a shirt that reads Krypton Lifting Team as he slowly holds up an action figure of him as Superman. All the Superman references and the excitement Cavill has after a long day may just point to his future as Superman significantly changing.

While Cavill may just be excited to receive this new Superman action figure, that is almost certainly not what is happening with this post. This instead further points to the likelihood that he is not done playing Superman as was previously reported. If that is the case, then the earlier reports may not have been necessarily false, but rather public negotiation tactics on the part of Cavill and his team. Fans have chimed in all day online showing their support for Cavill’s portrayal and frustration that WB and DC could let him walk away. If that’s what happened, then the studios may have finally agreed to Cavill’s terms and locked him in for a new, longer, and higher paying deal.

This is far from official, but unless this is Cavill’s way of saying he’s excited to be done playing Superman, it’s hard to take this as anything other than a sign that he’s returning. A new deal could mean that the once-planned Shazam! cameo actually does happen and is filmed before the movie’s April release date now. It could also point to a true Man of Steel sequel being announced in the near future. The exact plans for Cavill’s Superman still aren’t clear, but it seems that he may not be done with the character after all.
