Ghostbusters 2020: Jason Reitman Shares BTS Cast Photo

Director Jason Reitman shares a behind-the-scenes photo for Ghostbusters 2020. Based on the 1984 franchise-starter, the new film will pick up on the original storyline that continued with the 1989 sequel. Reitman’s photo includes cast members Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace, along with Reitman’s father, Ivan Reitman, who directed the first two Ghostbusters films.

The original Ghostbusters stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis. They portray three purely unique parapsychologists who investigate strange occurrences at Columbia University. Both Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis have supporting roles, thus boosting the ‘80s star power in addition to the comedic nature of the film. Produced for approximately $25 to $30 million, Ghostbusters earned over $295 million at the box office. The film also earned two Oscar nominations for Best Original Song and Best Visual Effects. Ghostbusters’ main cast returned for the 1989 sequel, which also became a huge box office hit by earning over $215 million. Both films were written by Aykroyd and the late Ramis. They also feature cinematography by the iconic László Kovács (Easy Rider) and Martin Scorsese collaborator Michael Chapman (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull).

On Twitter, Reitman posted a behind-the-scenes photo for Ghostbusters 2020, thus officially acknowledging the commencement of production. In the colorful image, Grace smiles while holding a production slate, with crew members visible in the background. Cast members Coon and Wolfhard appear center-frame, and also bear ear-to-ear smiles. Ivan Reitman appears on the far left, with his son, Jason, on the opposite side next to an ARRIHead camera. The photo is captioned with “The Family’s All Here #GB20.” Check out Reitman’s Tweet below.

In 2016, Ivan Reitman co-produced a franchise reboot entitled Ghostbusters: Answer the Call. Featuring an all-female main cast including Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, the film is regarded as a flop given its massive budget at $144 million and $229 million box office take. Sony initially scheduled a sequel, only to scrap the plans. In January 2019, Jason Reitman announced his Ghostbusters movie would stay faithful to the original series with a third franchise installment. On July 12, Reitman teased Ghostbusters 2020 with an image of the Ecto-1 vehicle.

The main Ghostbusters 2020 cast doesn’t scream out comedy, but the addition of Paul Rudd will certainly help. However, Wolfhard’s Stranger Things fanbase will undoubtedly flock to theaters to see the new movie, and Coon brings an extraordinary amount of performative polish to the film. Meanwhile, Grace has already accumulated an impressive resume at only 13 year old, appearing in high-profile productions like Ready Player One, Captain Marvel, Annabelle Comes Home, The Haunting of Hill House, and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Ghostbusters 2020 is scheduled for a July 10, 2020 release.

Star Wars: Mark Hamill Shares Fun Story About Carrie Fisher

Reminiscing about some of the original Star Wars trilogy antics that they used to get into as Luke and Leia, Mark Hamill shared a fun story about Carrie Fisher with fans on social media. More than two years after Fisher’s untimely passing, Star Wars fans continue to learn more about the late star’s amazing life thanks to the colorful memories of peers like Hamill.

Hamill reprised the forever iconic character of Luke Skywalker in 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, a controversial role whose direction and ultimate fate divided some fans – and even Hamill himself. While he and some fans continue to try sorting out why writer-director Rian Johnson did what he did to the beloved character on the lead-up to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, it’s understandably nice to fondly look back at the films that started it all.

Related: Every Upcoming Star Wars Movie & Release Date

Doing just that, Hamill shared two pleasant moments he and Carrie Fisher had shared during the filming of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi on Twitter. Prompted by user Starwarsgirl75 with a behind-the-scenes photo of himself wearing Fisher’s floral robe, Hamill recalled that it was taken the moment Fisher pointed out the responsible cameraman, who caught him completely unprepared. Offering up a similar story, Hamill also recounted an instance in which he had jokingly worn Fisher’s tight-fitting Hoth snow jumpsuit; a sight presumably so hilarious that it resulted in Fisher having “paraded [him] around the studio” for all to see. Check out the images below:

Though only Fisher’s likeness persists in the Skywalker trilogy’s finale, her larger-than-life personality and charm continues to impact her younger screen counterparts’ onset experiences even now. Though there are surely plenty of memorable off-camera moments shared between the co-stars of the newer films – and some huge onscreen moments fans have yet to witness – it’s hard to imagine they could ever quite compare to Leia informing a perplexed, kimono-clad Luke that he’s been had.

Luke Skywalker may no longer be physically present in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (meanwhile, Leia’s story is far from over), but Hamill seems to be pointing toward the Jedi Master making an appearance from beyond the grave. Fans won’t know for sure how the characters’ shared legacy will be wrapped up until the trilogy conclusion hits theaters this holiday season, but, until then, it can be hoped Hamill serves up some more heartwarming nostalgia on his Twitter account.

Star Wars: Mark Hamill Shares Fan-Made Original Trilogy Reunion Image

Mark Hamill shares a fan-made image reuniting the beloved characters of the Star Wars original trilogy, wondering what might have been if the old guard went on another adventure together. By the time The Force Awakens picked up 30 years after Return of the Jedi, the heroes of the Rebellion had all gone their separate ways. Following the emergence of the First Order and Ben Solo’s turn to the dark side, Luke Skywalker fled to Ahch-To to die in isolation, Han Solo returned to a career of smuggling around the galaxy, and Princess Leia led the Resistance. The trio never saw each other again, due to Kylo Ren murdering his father at the end of Force Awakens.

For the sequel trilogy, the filmmakers created a new generation of heroes and villains that would carry the Skywalker saga towards its conclusion, introducing audiences to characters like Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron. The old guard of the originals was still a part of the new films, but they were all relegated to supporting roles. There are many fans out there who wish the veterans got one last hurrah together, and Hamill certainly sympathizes with that viewpoint.

Related: Star Wars 9 Theory: Snoke Was Actually Palpatine All Along

On Twitter, Hamill posted a fan-made image of the older versions of Han, Luke, Leia, and Lando Calrissian flying in the Millennium Falcon as they look to accomplish another mission. In his post, Hamill used the hashtag #MissedOpportunities. Check it out in the space below:

In the past, Hamill’s been vocal about his wish to see the original trilogy characters reunite, and even pitched a few ideas to J.J. Abrams. As fun as it might have been to see the band back together, an argument can be made the sequel trilogy is better because that didn’t happen. Luke, Han, and Leia already had their story told, and Star Wars needed fresh blood in order to be viable again. Additionally, the lack of a reunion made Han’s death all the more tragic. He never got an opportunity to patch things up with his best friend after it all went south. The closest fans got to seeing the original big three again was Luke and Leia’s tearful meeting on Crait, where Solo’s lucky gold dice symbolized his presence. Han’s death still would have been impactful if he saw Luke again, but knowing the two’s relationship (probably) was fractured and would never be repaired really tugged at the heartstrings.

Though Hamill made headlines for saying he fundamentally disagreed with The Last Jedi (comments he later regretted making), people should not take this as any sort of serious criticism of the modern movies. On social media, Hamill is a renowned prankster and enjoys trolling his followers – especially Star Wars fans. In all likelihood, this is tapping into that side of his personality, though it will be interesting to see if this actually turns out to be a tease of sorts. With The Rise of Skywalker set to definitively end the saga, people have their fingers crossed for some kind of flashback involving the big three.

James Gunn Shares Look at The Suicide Squad Storyboard

James Gunn has shared a first look at the upcoming film The Suicide Squad through a storyboard. Suicide Squad 2, which has officially been titled The Suicide Squad, will be the follow-up to the 2016 film that was directed by David Ayer. After Disney fired Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the director jumped over to DC to work on The Suicide SquadGunn has since been rehired by Disney, but will direct The Suicide Squad before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

The Suicide Squad is currently on track for a summer 2021 release date with Gunn directing, but that wasn’t always the plan. At one point it was believed that Suicide Squad 2 could be released in 2018, but the film obviously got delayed by a few years. Several directors were also in talks to helm the project before Gunn, including Mel Gibson, Guy Ritchie, and Gavin O’Connor. Gunn is now officially on board for the project and it looks like he is on the storyboard process of development.

Related: James Gunn Misses Endgame Premiere Due to Working on Suicide Squad

In a screenshot from James Gunn’s instagram story, the director can be seen working hard on an illustration for a storyboard. It is hard to make out what exactly is drawn no the notecard, but Gunn captioned his post “My beautiful storyboards are back #TheSuicideSquad“. The screenshot, courtesy of Thomas Polito, can be seen below.

Suicide Squad had several DC villains such as the Joker (Jared Leto), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Diablo (Jay Hernandez), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Slipknot (Adam Beach), and Enchantress (Cara Delevingne). However, The Suicide Squad has been called a “total reboot”  and is said to introduce several new members to the team. The DC villains King Shark, Peacemaker, Polka-Dot Man and Ratcatcher have all been confirmed for the sequel, but there are some team members from the first movie that are also returning. So far, only Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, and Amanda Waller are said to be returning for the sequel.

This sneak peek of the film might not give fans too many details about the project, but it should be reassuring at least that the project is actually making progress. Fans might not be able to tell what is being drawn in this storyboard at this point, but it is always fascinating to look back after the movie has been released to see which of Gunn’s storyboardsd came to life. Gunn has shared storyboards in the past for films like Guardians of the Galaxy, so hopefully The Suicide Squad will be able to match the success he has seemed to have with Marvel thus far.

Mark Hamill Surprises Fans With Autographed Photos, Shares Their Reactions

Mark Hamill couldn’t attend the recent Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, so he sent ahead some signed photos that were randomly given to fans at the event. Star Wars Celebration is one of the largest gatherings for Star Wars fans in the world, with this year’s event taking place at McCormick Place in Chicago. Thousands of fans attended the event to get exclusive looks at upcoming Star Wars movies and TV shows, as well as have access to exclusive merchandise not available anywhere else.

This year’s event saw some significant reveals, including the first trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Fans reacted to the trailer with loud applause, hugs and even crying, but that was only the first of many surprises in store for them throughout the long weekend. They also got to see the first footage from Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian television series, which will premiere on Disney+. Many Star Wars celebrities were in attendance signing autographs and taking photos with fans, including the prequel movies’ Hayden Christensen, everyone’s favorite Wookie Peter Mayhew, Warwick Davis (who portrayed Wicket the Ewok in the original trilogy, among other characters throughout the franchise) and voice actors from the Star Wars animated series.

Related: George Lucas May Have Already Retconned Palpatine’s Death

Hamill is often a staple at these events, but the stars didn’t align that would allow him to attend this year. Instead, he was there in spirit through a Lucasfilm publicist on the ground in Chicago who was handing out autographed photos to fans. Hamill tweeted some of those fans’ reactions.

Hamill has always maintained a good relationship with Star Wars fans, especially on social media. He also occasionally trolls them, by hinting at plot points that may or may not be true. Hamill appeared most recently in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, with his character fighting off Kylo Ren and the First Order in a projected form before disappearing to, presumably, become one with the Force. However, his character, Luke Skywalker might not be gone for good, with the actor hinting that he might have a cameo in the upcoming movie, although it’s unclear if he will appear as Force ghost, if the scene is a flashback or if he’s joking again.

The next Star Wars Celebration will be in Anaheim in 2020, but the focus of that event will change from this year’s Celebration. The Rise of Skywalker wraps up the Skywalker saga, which includes nine movies, so 2020 attendees should expect less emphasis on films and more focus on TV shows and video games.

Mark Hamill Shares A Star Wars LEGO Set That Should Be Real

Mark Hamill shares a fan-made image of a Star Wars LEGO set that should be real. When the original movie came out in 1977, few could have predicted the phenomenon it’d become, meaning retailers were ill-prepared for the demand for Star Wars merchandise. But the days of Kenner’s infamous empty box campaign are in the very distant past. Now, not only is the unveiling of Star Wars tie-in products an unofficial holiday, everything from action figures to cases of bottled water have the franchise branding.

LEGO is one of the most prominent companies to have a Star Wars license, producing a plethora of sets that recreate scenes and moments from all the films. One of the most iconic sequences in the entire franchise is Luke Skywalker’s duel against Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back, which people can play out with the Cloud City LEGO set. Of course, that fight ended with Luke losing his hand and lightsaber, and now a fan imagines that getting the LEGO treatment as well.

Related: Theory – Rey & Kylo Ren’s Connection Will Bring Balance to the Force

On Twitter, Hamill shared an image of a fan-made LEGO kit that consists of Luke’s severed hand and lightsaber. In the hashtags, he joked that if this toy were real, it would be one of the worst ever. Check out his post in the space below:

This fictional set is actually a deep cut for those who have fond memories of following the old Force Awakens rumor mill. For a while, Episode VII was said to begin with the image of Luke’s hand (clutching the lightsaber) falling through space before landing unsuspectingly on Jakku. Of course, the movie’s MacGuffin was later changed to be a map to Luke, but the saber still played a vital role. It called out to Rey while she was on Takodana, as she took her first steps towards fulfilling her destiny. The classic Skywalker family lightsaber became Rey’s weapon of choice up until when it was torn apart in The Last Jedi. Time will tell what saber Rey will wield during Episode IX.

Though Maz Kanata told Han Solo the circumstances of the lightsaber’s return was “a good question, for another time,” the sequel trilogy has yet to provide an explanation for what happened. Even though Lupita Nyong’o is returning as Maz for Episode IX, it doesn’t seem likely the issue will be resolved in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming film. The saga finale has a lot on its plate, and this may just be a plot hole fans will have to look past. Perhaps one of the other areas of canon, be it a novel or comic book, can address it one day.

RDJ Shares Alternate Version of Tony & Peter’s Photo From New Endgame Trailer

Robert Downey Jr. shares an alternate look at Tony Stark and Peter Parker’s Avengers: Endgame special look photo. In light with the release of Avengers 4‘s tickets came a brand new bonus teaser mostly composed of new footage – which included a brief glance of Tony looking at a framed snap of him and his mentee upon the latter’s completion of the Stark internship. The split-second shot perfectly encapsulated the two’s dynamic, but there’s another version of the image that insinuates quite a different message.

Tony paved the way for Peter to join the bigger superhero world that exists with the Avengers in Captain America: Civil War. From the get-go, it’s clear that the two have a great dynamic so it wasn’t surprising that Iron Man, albeit reluctantly, became Spider-Man’s unofficial mentor. Marvel Studios efficiently fleshed out their relationship over the course of two films before events of Avengers: Infinity War rolled out, making Spider-Man’s death in the arms of Tony much more impactful. And the Endgame special look reminded fans of Tony’s trauma by featuring him staring at his and Peter goofing around for a snap.

Related: Thanos Proclaims He Won In New Avengers: Endgame TV Spot

A different shot of the image, however, makes its way online thanks to Downey sharing it on his official Instagram account. In his upload, Stark looks less enthusiastic about posing with Peter, while his mentee sheepishly grins. The plaque they’re holding is also upside down like how it is in Endgame‘s official teaser. The actor captioned his post “we are stoked,” check the image below:

There’s still no clarity when it comes to how Endgame could pan out with Disney’s trailers barely giving anything plot-wise. Add to that directors Joe and Anthony Russo admitted to footage manipulation in trailers to throw off fans from figuring out what’s going to happen in the film, and it makes it much more difficult to build theories based on what’s in these trailers. But with Spider-Man: Far From Home coming in two months after Avengers 4 with Peter teaming up with Nick Fury (who also disintegrated), fans are assured that Tony and the rest of the surviving heroes will be able to find a way to defeat Thanos and restore peace and order in the universe. Whether or not that means Iron Man survives the debacle is an entirely new conversation however. It’s also curious how Peter’s experience during this whole debacle will affect him moving forward.

Tony’s fight against Thanos has always been personal. The Mad Titan’s existence and the idea that he can launch another attack on Earth since the Battle of New York psychologically tortured him for years. But having Peter die in front of him because of the villain took it on another level, making him motivated now more than ever to make sure that Thanos pays for his sins. Since not much is known regarding Avengers: Endgame, it’s curious if the Avengers are particularly striving to revive the dead heroes and bring the universe to its state pre-snap or they’re simply out to avenge the galaxy. In any case, fans can be assured that they’ll do everything they can to take down the Mad Titan whatever it takes.

10 Things the Cast of Umbrella Academy Shares With Their Characters

The Umbrella Academy is one of the latest comic book TV shows to take the world of pop culture by storm. It tells the story of a dysfunctional family fueled by child prodigies with superpowers. Oh, and they’re all trying to get along amongst an impending apocalypse. So, let’s dive into the behind-the-scenes and take a look at the people who have made the pages of these comic books come to life.

While the cast features some familiar faces, it also showcases a lineup of lesser known, up and coming stars. Some have been seen around before, but some are just finding their edge. Most of us know who Ellen Page and Mary J. Blige are, but who are the rest of these people that play these eccentric individuals? We took a look at some of the common things these cast members share with their characters and broke it down for you.

Klaus, Sheehan’s Umbrella Academy character, is seen to be wearing a variety of outfits. These outfits range from average to very out there. In episode 1, “We Only See Each Other at Weddings and Funerals,” Klaus is wearing his sister Allison’s skirt that he seemingly steals from her closet. To her surprise, she asks, “Is that my skirt?” and he replies by telling her that it’s very airy.

During that same episode, at their father’s funeral, everyone chooses somber black umbrellas. But not Klaus. Instead, he opts for a flashy pink one. Just like Klaus, Sheehan is known for making statement choices in his outfits that don’t always fit into one mold. He has sported a variety of outfits at various appearances, including a mesh shirt and skirt at New York Comic Con and a variety of patterned pants.

At the young age of 15, Aidan Gallagher, who plays Five, has already accomplished more than most youngsters do. Most 15-year-olds are just living life trying to navigate high school, but not this guy. His character, Number Five, spends a lot of his time trying to save the world and get his siblings to believe in the Apocalypse that’s coming. He is often frustrated because they don’t really take it as seriously as he would like them to. In real life, Gallagher spends a lot of his time advocating for saving the world through environmental protection and is a United States Ambassador for the Environment. He’s expressed his own frustrations that others don’t take the cause seriously. So, he decided to do something about it, just like Five.

Vanya Hargreeves is an outcast. She has gone her entire life feeling as though she is isolated and different than all of her siblings because she never thought she had powers. Page, who plays Vanya, has also gone through similar experiences being a closeted lesbian for a large part of her life.

Page has openly spoken about her experiences being afraid to come out as a lesbian and allowed her fear to affect her social relationships and mental state. Vanya also has trouble with her social relationships. She lets her fears and anxieties prevent her from opening herself up to her family and friends.

Castaneda plays Diego, the impeccable knife-throwing, assassin-like member of the group. He was born in October 1989, and so were the rest of the members of the Umbrella Academy. The same goes for the many babies born to non-pregnant women on that day that didn’t make it to the Academy. The only big difference is the birth day itself. All of the Hargreeves children were born on October 1, 1989, while Castaneda was born on October 24, 1989. This puts Castaneda at the exact same age as his character, Diego. It’s just one of those little coincidences that you don’t see very often, especially with actors always playing different ages.

On the Umbrella Academy, Hopper plays the ginormous Luther. The reason he’s so huge is that he shares his genetic makeup with a gorilla thanks to a serum he received to save his life in the past. Luther is often seen doing all of the physical work and strength training to keep up with his huge shape. Obviously, Hopper trains more extensively and wears a muscle suit when he plays Luther. However, in reality, he is just as devoted to his workout regimen as Luther is. His regular gym routine includes lots of weights and something called a manmaker, and even when he’s on the road he doesn’t skip his workouts.

On the show, Allison is a megastar who is now learning to enjoy being away from the spotlight of fame and reuniting with her siblings. Of course, Raver-Lampman is obviously an actress because she is playing her actress character, Allison.

However, her past in acting goes much deeper. She is a highly trained classical stage actress who has been in some major touring stage productions such as Hamilton, Hair, and Wicked. On top of that, she’s been involved in musical theater since she was a young child, attending the Governor’s School for the Arts and traveling the world with her professor parents.

It’s not really a focal point of her character in the show. But Cha-Cha and Hazel are both known to be huge sugar addicts. They thrive on a sugar high. In the show, it’s shown more with Hazel’s character and his love of donuts. However, Mary J. Blige, who plays Cha-Cha knows what addition is like firsthand. Blige has openly spoken about her struggle in the past with addiction to alcohol and drugs. The veteran rapper and unofficial Queen of Hip-Hop Soul is now sober. But she sure knows the experience that Cha-Cha is going through with her sugar addiction. Not to mention her addiction to killing, because that counts, too.

One of the reasons that Leonard Peabody is able to become entangled in Vanya’s life and get in close enough to manipulate her is because he has stayed away from any attention throughout his lifetime. So, no one knows who he is. In that same vein, John Magaro, who plays Leonard, enjoys remaining out of the spotlight despite his up and coming status. A recent interview with him revealed that he doesn’t tell any of his friends about his projects and that he and his fiance prefer to just Netflix and chill instead of going out and attracting attention to themselves.

Despite the fact that the patriarch of the Hargreeves family is not known to have been the best father around, he is known for being a prestigious, prominent man within society. Colm Feore, who plays Sir Reginald, is also a prestigious Canadian actor who has received many honorary awards as well as an honorary doctorate degree. He’s considered a veteran of the Canadian stage, specializing in Shakespeare performances, and is completely bilingual in French and English. He was even made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2013 for his contributions to Canadian theater, both for movies and stage productions.

Cameron Britton plays Hazel, the other half of the assassin duo sent back in time to kill Number Five. Fortunately for Britton, he’s already very familiar with being a killer. On screen, that is. Before being cast in The Umbrella Academy, Britton was known for playing serial killer Ed Kemper on the Netflix series Mindhunter. He was even nominated for an Emmy for that role. While Kemper is a more notorious murderer, Hazel is more of a sympathetic character because he doesn’t really want to be a villain and is ready to escape this life.

Fox Officially Completes Distribution of Shares Ahead of Disney Deal

Disney‘s acquisition of Fox is now effectively complete. Reports of Disney’s interest in buying Fox first emerged in late 2017 but the complex transaction has experienced over a year of twists, turns and tribulations, while onlookers continued to speculate as to the ramifications the deal may have on certain franchises. Disney had to contend with a number of rival offers from Comcast but the Mouse House always looked more likely to get the deal over the line and by Summer 2018, they were once again the only contender in the race to acquire Fox and its assets.

Since then, the Disney/Fox deal has undergone a tedious and detailed legal approval process. Shareholders from both companies overwhelmingly backed the acquisition and approval was granted from the EU, subject to certain terms, as well as Brazil and finally Mexico earlier this month. On March 12, it was officially announced that the deal would finally close at 12:02am Eastern Time on March 20, 2019.

Related: A Complete Timeline Of The Disney Fox Deal

One of the final steps in this long process is the distribution of Fox shares. A previous announcement already confirmed how many shareholders had elected to take cash and how many chose to receive shares in Disney instead, and a new press release from 21st Century Fox has confirmed that the process is finally complete. The announcement confirms that all “issued and outstanding shares” have been paid out and also states that “21CF” and “Fox” are now separately listed as standalone publicly traded companies.

With this announcement, Disney’s acquisition of Fox is all but complete and with only hours now remaining until the official handover time, there is little left to do but wait for the deal to formally close.

Naturally, there are both positive and negative arguments regarding this landmark movie industry shift. On one hand, many moviegoers are understandably excited about the prospect of the mighty Disney acquiring certain key properties. One of the most hotly debated of these is the return of the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises to Marvel Studios, with the rights having previously belonged to Fox. This paves the way for these iconic Marvel characters to finally make their appearance in the MCU and many believe that this anticipation is damaging the forthcoming release of Dark Phoenix.

On the other hand, some spectators are warning that having so many media properties collected under the umbrella of a single company, in this case Disney, will prove to be detrimental to the movie industry as a whole. The argument suggests that as major studios continue to be bought by other major studios, the competitiveness and diversity of the business begins to suffer and smaller studios struggle to make an impact against their far richer competitors.

Colin Hanks Shares A Really Awesome Story About Luke Perry

The entertainment world is still reeling from the tragic death of Luke Perry, and as fellow actors continue to pay tribute, more unheard stories about his life are beginning to surface, including from Colin Hanks. Perry, who was only 52-years-old, passed away just days after suffering a massive stroke at his home in California.

Perry first skyrocketed to stardom due to his role as Dylan McKay on the teen drama Beverly Hill, 90210 (which just announced a six-episode event series). He maintained teen heartthrob status throughout the 1990s while continuing his rise to fame. Perry’s loyal fanbase stayed with him during his career, but a new generation of fans was introduced to the actor with his role on Riverdale. Perry played the role of Fred Andrews, the hard-working and sensible father of lead character Archie. The role was viewed as a career resurgence of sorts. There’s no word on what will happen to Perry’s character on the CW series, but production was halted as a result of his death. Perry finished his work on the upcoming Quentin Tarantino film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood prior to his passing.

As the heartbreaking news of Perry’s passing spread, many fans, friends, and colleagues took to social media to honor the beloved actor. Many knew Perry as a family man, renowned for his random acts of kindness. One particular story that stands out comes from Hanks. The actor took to Instagram to share an amazing story about Perry breaking up a fight between two young brothers with the help of some balloons.

Hanks and his wife were once on a flight from Mexico when they noticed two young brothers arguing. The kids spent hours fighting, crying, and carrying on much to the chagrin of the rest of the passengers. Just before the plane landed, a man came from first class to save the day. With the use of some balloons, the man managed to calm the kids down. Hanks later realized that the “balloon man” was Perry who he had never met before. After praising each other’s work in the industry, Perry shared that he travels with balloons for those situations. The encounter left a lasting impression on Hanks as he vowed: “I’ll be damned if I don’t start traveling with some spare balloons.

The above touching tale from Hanks pulled at the heartstrings of many readers. This goes to show how much of an impact Perry had on others. Whether someone knew him personally or admired him from afar, the sentiments are the same. As if anyone needed another reason to respect and appreciate Luke Perry, a story like this exists. His loss will continue to be felt, but as more stories from his life inevitably come out, his legacy will only continue to grow.
