Swamp Thing Teaser Reveals First Look At Live-Action Swamp Thing

DC Universe releases a live-action Swamp Thing TV show teaser that reveals a first look at the titular creature. Swamp Thing is one of a handful of live-action original TV shows planned for the DC Universe streaming service. It will follow the debuts of Titans in Fall 2018 and Doom Patrol in February. But while Doom Patrol is a spinoff from Titans, and therefore set in the same world, Swamp Thing will be completely separate. Swamp Thing is set to premiere on DC Universe May 31, with that being announced at WonderCon 2019.

Swamp Thing is produced by James Wan (Aquaman), with Underworld’s Len Wiseman directing the pilot episode and Mark Verheiden serving as showrunner. The series is a live-action adaptation of the DC Comics character created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson. Swamp Thing stars Andy Bean as Alec Holland, with Derek Mears portraying his Swamp Thing alter-ego, and Crystal Reed as co-lead Abby Arcane. Earlier today it was reported that Swamp Thing was shutting down production on season 1 early, shortening the series order from 13 episodes to 10. Now, fans have their first look at the series’ titular character.

DC Universe released a Swamp Thing teaser video that unveils the first look at the live-action Swamp Thing, brought to life by Mears. Watch the short video below:

Previously, Swamp Thing set photos offered teases of what to expect from the DC Universe TV show, and a Swamp Thing set video released by Wiseman previewed the creepy tone of the series. The show is described as having a “strange but alluring Shape of Water romance” between Abby Arcane and the Swamp Thing. While those early set photos from the series featured Reed’s Abby and Bean’s Alec, though, this is the first look at the actual Swamp Thing himself.

Superhero TV shows have been hit-and-miss with their live-action takes on comic book characters, and the same can be said for DC Universe’s originals. Although Doom Patrol’s Robotman is a fairly solid take on the odd character, the TV show’s Cyborg costume and design hasn’t been as well received – especially with a big screen Cyborg to live up to. It remains to be seen how fans will react to the DC Universe’s Swamp Thing, another character that’s particularly tough to bring to live-action. Further, this brief teaser only reveals a portion of the costume, and not much action, so a better look is still to come. A trailer for Swamp Thing will surely be released in the next month or so and fans will get a better idea of what to expect from the series when it debuts in late May.

The Boys Uncensored Teaser Trailer Brings The Hyper-Violent Comic To Life

The new teaser trailer for Amazon’s adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s irreverent, anti-superhero comic book series The Boys offers up more stylized hyper violence and the series’ premiere date. Produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, with Supernatural creator Eric Kripke serving as showrunner, the new series looks as though it will take advantage of the streaming service’s deep pockets, lining up not only a great cast that includes Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, and Elizabeth Shue, but also boasts the sort of special effects that help underline the superhero-ness of it all.

The series has been in the works for some time, with Rogen and Goldberg working to make The Boys the second of Ennis’s comics work they would adapt – the first being AMC’s Preacher. That seres proved the impudent humor seen in the likes of Superbad, This is the End, and Pineapple Express meshed well with Ennis’s blend of outrageous violence and brazen laughs, so as the saying goes, “one good turn deserves another.”

Even for those unfamiliar with the comic book series, it will be evident from the new teaser trailer just how different The Boys is from Preacher. For starters, the series is a cheeky look at the world’s obsession with superheroes, and from the widespread over-saturation of superhero-centric films and TV, it seems like 2019 is the perfect time to launch the show. Check out the violence- and profanity-filled new trailer along with a synopsis of the series below:

The Boys is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes – who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods – abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It’s the powerless against the super powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about The Seven, and Vought – the multi-billion dollar conglomerate that manages these superheroes and covers up all of their dirty secrets. The Boys are Hughie (Jack Quaid, “The Hunger Games”), Billy Butcher (Karl Urban, “Star Trek”), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso, “Detroit”), Frenchie (Tomer Capon, “Hostages”), and The Female (Karen Fukuhara, “Suicide Squad”). Simon Pegg (“Mission: Impossible – Fallout”) guest stars as Hughie’s father.”

From the look of the trailer, Urban and Starr are in competition to see who can appear to be more “on one” than the other. While Starr is clearly having fun playing a god-like sociopath posing as a hero, his bearded counterpart is relishing the no-holds-barred aspect of his character as well. The result looks to be a fun new series that’s every bit as wild and unpredictable at the comic on which it is based.

The Boys premieres Friday, July 26 exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.

Hobbs & Shaw Teaser Confirms New Trailer Arrives Thursday

A new Hobbs & Shaw teaser video confirms an April 18 release date for the new trailer. Directed by David Leitch, the action comedy is a spinoff of the Fast and the Furious series with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham reprising their franchise roles.

In Hobbs & Shaw, Johnson stars as Luke Hobbs, a character who first emerged as a villain in Fast Five. Since then, Hobbs has been part of four subsequent films, in which he serves as a United States Diplomatic Security Service agent, a bounty hunter, and a comrade to Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto. Meanwhile, Luke Shaw first appeared during the Fast & Furious 6 credits sequence, in which he’s narratively connected to the third series installment, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Like Hobbs, Shaw manages to form a bond with Toretto. Based on the talkative personalities of both Hobbs and Shaw, along with the A-list star power of both Johnson and Statham, the new spinoff represents a logical next step until the next proper film releases. Earlier this year, the aforementioned Diesel stated that three Fast and the Furious spin-offs are in the works.

On Twitter, the official Hobbs & Shaw account posted a new teaser video that confirms the impending release of trailer #2.  The clip begins with a graphic that reads “IN 3 DAYS,” and the flip of a switch takes the viewer inside an engine for a brief few seconds, until an explosion transitions to the final graphic reveal. As a whole, the Hobbs & Shaw trailer teaser is only seven seconds long, but it fully aligns with the franchise’s basic premise: fast AND furious. Check out the Hobbs & Shaw teaser video below.

Last February, Universal Pictures premiered Hobbs & Shaw’s first trailer, which introduces the villain Brixton, a “cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist,” portrayed by Idris Elba. Earlier this month, Johnson and Statham introduced the new Hobbes & Shaw trailer at CinemaCon, in which Elba’s Brixton describes himself as the “Black Superman.” In addition, the trailer unsurprisingly highlights the unique lead dynamics, as both characters are known for talking trash, and also for getting the job done. Last month, Hobbs & Shaw producer Hiram Garcia posted a black and white image of the baddie Brixton brandishing a flamethrower, suggesting that the new film will be a lot of fun for long-time franchise fans.

In Hobbs & Shaw, English actress Vanessa Kirby co-stars as MI6 agent Hattie Shaw, the sister of Statham’s title character. In addition, acclaimed English actress Helen Mirren stars as the family matriarch. These female roles are significant, as the next franchise installment will reportedly be a female-centric film, with MCU scribe Nicole Perlman scheduled to write with Captain Marvel screenwriter Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Lindsey Beer (Sierra Burgess Is a Loser).

Based on what we’ve seen so far, the new Hobbs & Shaw trailer will be explosive yet light-hearted. Both Johnson and Statham are legit international stars, and the spinoff allows them to flex their comedic chops while staying true to the series’ premise. But just as Kirby stole many scenes in Mission: Impossible – Fallout, don’t be surprised if she does the same in Hobbs & Shaw, and the same applies for Eiza González as Madam M. For now, enjoy the Hobbs & Shaw teaser, along with the upcoming trailer.

Big Little Lies Season 2 Teaser Trailer Reveals June Premiere Date

The first teaser trailer for Big Little Lies season 2 reunites the start-studded cast, as they reconvene in the wake of the death that marked the original series finale. After becoming a hit for HBO and then going on to win an inordinate amount of awards, including Emmys and Golden Globes, the limited series adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s novel suddenly became not-so limited after all. That the premium cabler was able to get the likes of Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Alexander Skarsgård, Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz and more was testament to the power and pull that prestige TV has nowadays, but that feat may have already been outdone with season 2 brining back not only the show’s central cast, but also multiple Academy Award-winner Meryl Streep.

Along with Streep, the series also brings in new talent behind the camera, as acclaimed filmmaker Andrea Arnold (Fish Tank, American Honey) steps in, replacing Jean-Marc Vallée (Sharp Objects) as the director of all seven episodes of the second season. Though some footage of Big Little Lies season 2 has been released by HBO — in the network’s big coming attractions teaser that touted not only Game of Thrones, but also Watchmen, Deadwood, Euphoria and more — there’s been little actual content that hints at what the story will entail.

That’s all but taken care of with the new teaser trailer, which lays out what viewers can expect from the new season, which will head into uncharted territory now that it’s completed the story told in Moriarty’s original novel. Of course, original series writer David E. Kelley will be back to script the ongoing story of Madeline Mackenzie (Witherspoon), Celeste Wright (Kidman), Jane Chapman (Woodley) and the others, meaning the show shouldn’t deviate too much from what made it a hit to begin with, but it also means season 2 will have a very high bar to clear. Check out the first teaser trailer for Big Little Lies season 2 below:

The teaser re-establishes the series’ familiar look and feel, though it makes a point early on that  the women have since gone on to earn something of a questionable reputation, along with the moniker “the Monterey Five, a label that leads Woodley’s Jane to compare it to The Scarlet Letter. The idea that the women would be facing scrutiny from the insular community as well as from Streep’s character, Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Skarsgård’s abusive Perry Wright, is probably not too shocking considering how much of the first season was fueled by speculation and gossip from members of the community.

The teaser isn’t shy about playing up its impressive cast or the award-winning caliber of their performances. Though big-name stars aren’t necessarily the draw they once were at the movies, the same isn’t true of television, which can still offer a lot of bang for the movie star buck.
