Scarlet Witch & Vision TV Series Confirmed, Titled WandaVision

Marvel and Disney have officially confirmed a television series surrounding the characters of Scarlet Witch and Vision, to air on the upcoming Disney+ streaming service under the title of WandaVision. This news comes a day after it was reported that a Hawkeye series would also air on Disney+, and a few months after a series surrounding the two Avengers characters was rumored to be in development. This all seems to be part of Marvel’s strategy to utilize the upcoming streaming service to tell more intimate stories about characters who haven’t necessarily had the screen time to shine in the big Avengers team-up movies.

While Disney+ has yet to launch, the company behind the streaming platform is working on a plethora of shows centered in both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Star Wars canon, seemingly in an attempt to draw more subscriptions in what is already a crowded streaming market. A Falcon & Winter Soldier series was also announced alongside WandaVision, which will focus on yet more supporting characters in the MCU, hopefully in an effort to flesh out its underutilized characters in a long-form environment like television.

At the Walt Disney Studios’ investor meeting, which focused on the Disney+ streaming service and its upcoming launch, WandaVision was confirmed by the company. The series will focus on both Scarlet Witch and Vision, and will bring back actors Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany in starring roles.

While it’s not surprising that WandaVision was confirmed by Disney, the title itself definitely is. It was previously rumored that the show would be called Vision and the Scarlet Witch, which certainly has more of a comic book feel to it (in fact, there was a comic story with the same name released in the 1980s). WandaVision is certainly easier for fans to remember, however, and definitely has a nice ring to it. There’s no word yet on when to expect the show or how many episodes it’ll have, but that will surely come in due time.

Captain Marvel and Black Widow scribe Jac Schaeffer will write and produce WandaVision for Disney+, though there’s no information available on when the story will take place in the MCU continuity or what that story will be. Presumably, it will focus somewhat on the romantic relationship between Scarlet Witch and Vision and how it develops. Whether that includes drawing from their complex relationship in the comics remains to be seen. Either way, fans can be assured that WandaVision is on the way.

Ryan Reynolds’ Game Show Titled Don’t Green Lit By ABC

Ryan Reynolds’ game show, titled Don’t, has been green lit by ABC. The TV game show format has been in need of a boost over the last few years, and although numerous classic shows have recently returned with updated looks and concepts, maintaining their popularity continues to be an uphill battle for some.

With such a great degree of programming currently available to the average TV viewer, it’s hardly surprising that the most memorable game shows are the ones that have proven themselves over time. Few game shows will ever reach the heights that the likes of Jeopardy!, Wheel of Fortune or even Family Feud have managed to attain and often, this degree of notoriety has as much to do with the hosts of those programs as with the game itself. A well-made game show with an endearing or comedic host is often the best chance a network has to find success, so when a star who possesses both those qualities sets to work at getting a new game show off the ground, there’s ample reason for audiences to give the program a chance.

Related: Jeopardy! Host Alex Trebek Reveals Cancer Diagnosis In Video Message

In this case, Deadline is reporting that actor/comedian Ryan Reynolds is getting set to produce a brand new game show concept called Don’t. While Reynolds won’t be taking on hosting duties, he’s still very excited about this latest venture into the vast world of home entertainment. Speaking about Don’t during the game show’s announcement, Reynolds explained his troubled relationship with the word, while utilizing the sardonic humor that fans have come to expect (and love):

“All my life, the word ‘don’t’ has tortured me. From ‘don’t curse’ to ‘don’t play ball in the house’ to ‘don’t eat the crab salad you left in the sun for three days.’ I cannot wait for my personal trauma to become the next great ABC family show.”

The concept of Don’t is a pretty simple one: a family of four must take on five different challenges – some of which are mental and some of which are physical. The main characteristic that all these challenges share is that each one of them involves the rule “don’t”“Don’t Laugh”, “Don’t Slip”, “Don’t Scream”, etc. Each challenge must be completed within a set amount of time in order to win a cash prize. Every challenge that isn’t completed during the allotted time limit will result in the elimination of a family member from the game, and each member will eventually be eliminated until there is only one remaining. When this occurs, the final family member must complete all of the challenges in order to win the prize money.

Judging by what we currently know about how Don’t is played, there doesn’t seem to be very much to it. It’s hard to imagine a game show such as this being around for the long haul, despite Ryan Reynolds being deeply involved with it. However, the game’s concept will likely be far more entertaining than it sounds, as the restrictions imposed upon participants could result in some decent laughs. Should the worse case scenario occur and Don’t doesn’t perform the way Reynolds or ABC had hoped, Reynolds still gets full points for continuing to be the risk taker that he’s become known as.

Grease Prequel Movie Titled Summer Loving In The Works

A Grease prequel movie, titled Summer Loving, is in the works. Back in 1978, Paramount decided to adapt the successful Broadway musical Grease to the big screen. The production had built up considerable momentum by that time and Hollywood seemed the next logical stop for such a proven crowd-pleaser.

Though the film version of Grease roughly follows the same plot as that of the stage version – a teenage “greaser” called Danny (played by John Travolta) falls for a respectable Australian transfer student Sandy (Olivia Newton-John) and the two must learn to deal with the differences in their respective social circles – it did remove several characters, plot lines and songs from the original production. New songs were added, as well as characters and different scenarios were explored that had only been mildly alluded to in the Broadway version. Another change for Paramount was toning down the vulgarity and lewdness that was present in the stage production, in order to make the film version slightly more palatable to a wider audience demographic.

Now, just after forty years since the big screen adaptation was released, THR has revealed that Paramount is looking to revive the Grease brand with a prequel. The new film will aim to recount the very first meeting between Danny and Sandy – which both teens sing to their friends about in one of the most well known songs from Grease, Summer Nights. In keeping with the song’s summertime references of teenage romance, the new film will be called Summer Loving.

As of this writing, there isn’t any information on when the film might be released, which actors could potentially fill the shoes of Travolta and Newton-John, or if any of the original Grease cast members will be returning. With the original film having been set in 1958, it stands to reason that Summer Loving will also be set in the ’50s. What we do currently know, however, is that the new film will be scripted by John August, who has long been a familiar talent in Hollywood, having written a variety of films for director Tim Burton, including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride and Dark Shadows. August is also responsible for co-writing the script for Disney’s upcoming live-action Aladdin remake.

When it comes to musicals, Grease has proven that a well made production with memorable characters, dancing and songs can thrive at the box-office and beyond. It’s tempting to dismiss a Grease prequel as little more than an effort on the part of Paramount to revive past glories, but as the six time Oscar-winning La La Land proved as recently as 2016, there is still life left in the musical, and audiences will respond positively if it’s well done. That’s likely to be a source inspiration for Paramount as they get set to tell us more about Summer Loving.

How Game of Thrones Prevented Set Photos From Spoiling the Series Finale

When it comes to avoiding spoilers for Game of Thrones, filmmakers are taking no chances for season 8. The story of Game of Thrones started in 1996 when author George R.R. Martin published his book titled A Game Of Thrones, which stands as his first entry in his A Song of Ice and Fire series. His series of novels is what HBO decided to adapt into Game of Thrones which came on the air in 2011.

The show has been running for seven seasons, but Game of Thrones very quickly became one of HBO’s most popular TV shows. The series has a truly ensemble cast including actors like Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Kit Harington, and Lena Headey. All of these characters survived the end of season 7, but it is up in the air whether they will survive the eighth and final season. Thankfully, spoilers for the upcoming season haven’t leaked yet, which is because HBO is taking special precautions to ensure that doesn’t happen.

According to EW, HBO is using new high-tech instruments to make sure drones cannot fly over filming locations called a “Drone Killer“. Previously, Game of Thrones has had leaks due to flying drones and even actual photographersAs explained by actress Sophie Turner at New York Comic Con, “If a drone flies above sets, there’s a thing that can kill the drones, which is really cool. It creates a field around it and the drones just drop. It’s very X-Men.” While this new development will no doubt help contain spoilers on the highly anticipated season, the show has still had trouble in the past keeping elements of the plot a secret.

Last August, hackers stole 1.5 terabytes of data from HBO which contained Game of Thrones scripts as well as the cast’s personal information. The leak was a big blow to HBO as people were less inclined to tune in if the episodes had been spoiled. The filmmakers behind the newest season seem to not be playing games when it comes to season 8. In addition to this, the Game of Thrones scripts now supposedly vanish after the scenes have been filmed. It was also rumored that the show would film multiple endings, but those rumors have since been debunked by the cast.

Even though Game of Thrones is still quite a ways away, the eighth season is looking to be the biggest one yet (despite being the shortest in number of episodes). After all, this season will feature the biggest battle in Game of Thrones history. The series will also have to effectively tie up each of the characters storylines and finally reveal who will sit atop the Iron Throne. Regardless of what HBO has in store for fans, they are doing everything they can to ensure that this season doesn’t get spoiled early.

Crazy Rich Asians Is Highest-Grossing Rom-Com This Decade (So Far)

Wildly successful romantic comedy Crazy Rich Asians looks to be leader of the pack in box office receipts for the decade. It’s been roughly two months in theaters since its mid-August release, and the runaway hit adaptation of Kevin Kwan’s best-selling book has handily outsold every other rom-com in the 2010s, and yet remains in theaters at time of this writing.

Crazy Rich Asians broke early ticket sales records from its premiere, dominating the box office for three straight weekends with no signs of slowing down. The film stars Constance Wu ( Fresh Off the Boat ) in the leading role, alongside veteran Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Star Trek: Discovery) and rising star Awkwafina (Ocean’s 8), among others. Directed by filmmaker Jon M. Chu, Crazy Rich Asians’ immediate success followed positive early buzz, making its opening weekend the biggest rom-com opening since 2015’s Trainwreck.

That early attention simply did not waver, and the film has seen eight solid weekends of consistent sales thus far, placing in top 10 tickets sold in the first weekend of October. That momentum has seemingly secured its legacy, and, according to Box Office Mojo (via Screen Crush), Crazy Rich Asians as the sixth-highest grossing romantic-comedy of all-time at the domestic box office, with over $169 million in sales, which also makes it the highest grossing rom-com of the decade.

This news makes reports of the imminent sequel, which arrived a mere week after opening weekend, seem particularly wise on the part of Warner Bros. Titled China Rich Girlfriend, the sequel is based on the follow-up novel of the same name, and will push the story presented in the original forward. Limited information about the sequel is available at present – and there’s considerable speculation as to plot details when weighing the changes made in the Crazy Rich Asians adaptation – but the director and writers are expected to return.

Aside from its profitable reign in theaters, Crazy Rich Asians was notable as the first Hollywood studio film with primarily Asian-American leads since 1993’s award-winning The Joy Luck Club. News of the sequel aside, this distinction may have spearheaded a new trend, and Warner Bros./New Line’s recently-acquired Singles Day may represent increased trust being placed in Asian-American actors and actresses to draw audiences to theaters.

For now, Crazy Rich Asians continues its run in theaters across the country, and a mere $7 million more will see it crack the top five romantic comedies and outsell 1998’s There’s Something About Mary.

Update: Corrected the filmography of Constance Wu.

Godzilla Vs Kong Movie Casts Atlanta’s Brian Tyree Henry

Brian Tyree Henry is set to join the cast of Godzilla Vs Kong. Legendary is getting into the cinematic universe game with the MonsterVerse and are building towards their big crossover in style. Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla launched the universe in 2014 and was followed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ ’70s-set Kong: Skull Island. They’ve now established the two monsters, but are giving Godzilla a sequel next year to further set up their upcoming confrontation. That will happen in the appropriately titled Godzilla Vs Kong, directed by Adam Wingard.

The crossover movie has been getting itself into position to start filming, which was previously reported to start at the beginning of this month. There’s so far been no indication that this has actually happened and it would be difficult to do so without the entire cast set. The biggest star so far is Millie Bobby Brown reprising her role from Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

Variety now reports that Emmy-nominated Atlanta actor Brian Tyree Henry is joining the cast of Godzilla Vs Kong. There’s no details about who he will be playing, only that it is described as a “significant” role. This could make him either a hero or a villain in the larger story, both of which Henry’s shown the ability to succeed in.

Henry is best known and recognized for his work in FX’s Donald Glover comedy/drama, and has only continued to line up future projects. He was already seen this year in smaller roles in Hotel Artemis and White Boy Rick, but has three more movies coming out by the end of the year. Supporting roles in Widow and If Beale Street Could Talk have already put him on the receiving end of great critical praise, while he’s also providing the voice of Miles Morales’ dad in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. He still has a third season of Atlanta, Amy Adams’ drama The Woman in the Window, Melissa McCarthy’s comedy Superintelligence, and the Child’s Play reboot in his future as well. Now that we can add Godzilla Vs Kong to his upcoming filmography, Henry will continue be someone audiences become very familiar with.

The cast of Godzilla Vs Kong extends beyond just Henry and Brown, though. The movie also brought Hunt for the Wilderpeople and Deadpool 2 star Julian Dennison on board earlier this year. There were even rumors that Black Panther‘s Danai Gurira was being eyed for a major role in the movie, but that has yet to be confirmed. Even if that doesn’t pan out, the movie is off to a great start with its casting. None of the stars may be certifiable box office draws just yet, but that’s why a battle between Godzilla and King Kong is at the center of the film. And, who knows, by the time Godzilla Vs Kong arrives in theaters, the constant exposure Henry is getting could make him a major selling point.

Cyborg Actor Ray Fisher Reunites With Zack Snyder In New Photo

Justice League star Ray Fisher reunited with his former director, Zack Snyder, today at the filmmaker’s old office, and they both posted a photo together on social media, but it’s unclear why Fisher decided to stop by Snyder’s office. Years ago, before WB’s unofficially titled DC Extended Universe had gotten underway, Snyder – as well as his producing team and the casting department at Warner Bros. – ultimately decided to cast the actor as the DC superhero Cyborg.

While Fisher made his real debut in 2017’s Justice League movie, he first had a cameo in Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice alongside some of the rest of the world’s finest heroes, namely Jason Momoa (Aquaman) and Ezra Miller (The Flash). Even though his fellow co-stars were all thrilled to portray their superheroes, Fisher was especially excited, and he hasn’t refrained from continuing to express that enthusiasm despite everything that happened with Snyder and Justice League.

Related: Justice League’s Ray Fisher Thinks Cyborg Would Be Costly To Make

It seems that Ray Fisher visited Zack Snyder’s office today, and they both posted the photo on social media; Fisher made his post on Twitter, saying, “Me and the Cap’n making it happen… #BORGLIFE,” while Snyder, of course, posted on Vero, saying, “Look who’s hanging out at the office today.” Take a look:

A specific reason for why Fisher visited Snyder today hasn’t been determined, but it presumably had nothing to do with the DC movie universe, despite the fact that Snyder is technically still on board as producer for some of the future movies, like Aquaman and Wonder Woman 1984. In all likelihood, it’s possible that Fisher was merely on the WB lot for something else (perhaps for something in relation to HBO’s True Detective season 3, which he stars in), or maybe he just happened to be in the general area and wanted to stop by to visit Snyder, who is currently working on developing The Fountainhead (not The Last Photograph, as previously assumed), an adaptation of Ayn Rand’s 1943 novel of the same name.

Regardless of the reason Fisher and Snyder met up today, the photo could ignite some speculation that Fisher could potentially appear in Snyder’s new project or that they were discussing WB’s Cyborg movie, which doesn’t seem to have moved forward in development since its initial announcement. It was originally slated to release in 2020, but that no longer seems to be the case. Furthermore, if it ever does happen, it’s certainly possible that Snyder would be on board as a producer, just like he’s producing the other Justice League character spinoff movies.

Rambo 5 Officially Titled Last Blood

The fifth movie in the Rambo franchise is officially titled Rambo 5: Last Blood. Back when Sylvester Stallone was solidifying himself as a major movie star on the back of the Rocky franchise, Stallone boarded another project that would ultimately take up years of his life. He first played John Rambo in 1982’s First Blood. He returned for two sequels by 1988, then wasn’t seen again as the highly-skilled soldier for a decade. Another decade has since passed Rambo by, but Stallone is finally ready to return to his roots.

The last few months have been filled with updates on the next Rambo movie, one that will see Rambo return to American soil. Stallone shared some first look images from the movie recently that tease his new rancher lifestyle, but it’ll be a conflict with human traffickers which bring him back into action – possibly for the final time.

Related: Rambo 5 Welcomes Stallone Back to Jungle in Workout Video

THR confirmed that the fifth movie in the franchise is officially titled Rambo 5: Last Blood. The title alludes to Rambo’s story coming full circle after the first film was simply titled First Blood. The direct sequel continued this trend in a way by calling it Rambo: First Blood Part II. There was hardly consistency from that point on, with the third film titled Rambo III before the fourth entry was simply called Rambo.

The confirmed subtitle for Rambo 5 has a finality to it that could make fans of the character nervous. Stallone’s been revisiting several iconic roles as of late, and is putting his familiar characters through the ringer. Rocky Balboa got cancer in Creed and could die as soon as this November in Creed II. Rambo could have a similarly short life expectancy. Even if he manages to make it out of the fifth movie alive, titling the movie Last Blood indicates that it will be the final installment of the franchise. Now, crazy success critically or financially could eventually change that, but this appears to be the direction Rambo 5 is heading.

Filming on Last Blood is currently underway as Stallone has confirmed, but not much else is set for the movie officially. Paz Vega just joined the cast as a reporter who works with Rambo following the kidnapping of her half-sister. Casting for the sister and her kidnappers hasn’t yet been announced. Get the Gringo‘s Adrian Grunberg is set to direct the film, which is expected to hit theaters in fall 2019. As long as production continues to move along smoothly and the casting process doesn’t have any hiccups, Rambo 5: Last Blood will be here before fans know it.
