After being let go by MTV five years ago, MacKenzie McKee, of 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom 3, will join the cast of Teen Mom OG for a handful of episodes as a guest star for the upcoming season. The series has had to deal with some relatively big shake-ups from recent seasons, and McKee is officially joining the mix.
Teen Mom 3 was canceled before McKee had a chance to invite fans into her home to get to know her family. Since the cancellation of the third installment, the 26-year-old Oklahoma native has since graduated high school and started her own business. Now, fans of the series will not only get an update on what she’s been up to, but will get an inside look into her day-to-day life.
After the third installment of the show was canceled in 2013, McKee carried on with her life and married her high school sweetheart, Josh McKee. According to US Weekly, she was shocked when she heard the show had ended, saying, “As soon as I graduated, the show quit, and it was kind of like a, ‘Oh, crap,’ moment, where is my life going? What am I going to do with all of my time? I’m not filming anymore. … I’m very thankful that I found myself at rock bottom because now I’ve become very successful.” Now, McKee has an established workout video business that she owns, and the couple has three children – Gannon, 7, Jaxie, 5, and Broncs, who is 2. The Teen Mom 3 alum also mentioned that she is “really excited to pick up where [she] left off and continue telling [her] story.”
When season 8 of Teen Mom OG is aired, fans will see McKee raising her three children, dealing with the possibility of her husband cheating during a rodeo circuit, and helping her mom battle stage four lung cancer. McKee and her family have always been open about the matriarch’s battle, assuring fans that her mother is staying positive in her fight. MTV has not yet asked McKee to join the cast full time, as it is believed the network is giving her a trial run. If MTV does end up asking her to join the show, she said that she “would love to continue sharing.” Despite McKee’s excitement, the rest of the Teen Mom OG cast did not seem very happy about the news. She understood that as the new girl, she would have to endure some pushback from the other moms, saying, “I think they just felt a little bit blindsided, so it was kind of shocking the day they found out”
Teen Mom fans have had to deal with a lot of changes, and this is just another one to add to the mix. The franchise is all about its cast facing new challenges and navigating around them, so McKee joining the show shouldn’t come as too much of a shock. Hopefully, this particular change will end up creating a more cohesive relationship between the moms.
Teen Mom OG airs Mondays at 9pm EST on MTV.
